What to Know
After seven seasons of My Strange Addiction, one might think that there’s nothing that TLC could surprise us with, no person’s story that is more outrageous than the ones we’ve already heard… but then, you’d be wrong. On the February 11 episode, the show introduced us to Anissa, a woman who is addicted to smelling her dad’s underwear, and now, she’s going viral for it.
Anissa’s addiction hasn’t had very positive impacts on her life.
This has to be one of the strangest addictions on My Strange Addiction. And that’s saying something. pic.twitter.com/E4eh6vB9HY

In a clip from the show that’s making the rounds on X, Anissa said that her addiction has cost her clients at work, but she’s still unable to quit. We can even see her pull a pair of her dad’s (used) undies out of her purse and sniffed them before putting them back.
During her episode, she explained that it’s something that helps her when she’s experiencing anxiety, and it’s been going on for about three years now. In that time, she has managed to steal about 100 pairs of her dad’s underwear to use for this purpose… which means he must be replacing that underwear at an alarming rate.
Her dad seemed a bit horrified when he found out.
In another scene, Anissa came clean to her dad about her addiction, and his reaction was pretty understandable, even if it may not have been the one that his daughter was hoping for.
She claimed it started when her parents split up before pulling a pair of his underwear out from where it was hiding in her shirt and putting it up to her nose to give it a big sniff.
“That’s weird,” he said without much hesitation before telling her, “I’m gonna be honest with you. You need help.”
A few moments later, he got up and walked away, saying he didn’t want to talk about it anymore.
The reactions are pretty wild.
Considering the situation, it’s no surprise that people aren’t reacting to this much better than Anissa’s dad did.
“I’m with pops. Please don’t show me anything else,” one person on X wrote.
Another said, “I’ve never wanted to be pranked more in my life.”
In all seriousness, this kind of addiction usually does mean that the person in question needs help to work through it, so hopefully, in the future Anissa is able to get that help.
