Nicole Kidman Speaks Out About Her Divorce From Keith Urban for the First Time

Nicole Kidman is discussing her and Keith Urban’s divorce for the first time. During an interview with Variety published Wednesday, March 11, Kidman noted that she was “quiet” during 2025. The Oscar-winning actress filed for divorce from Urban in September 2025 after 19 years of marriage. Their divorce was finalized in January.

“I had other things going on. I was in my shell,” Kidman said.

When asked if she was doing all right in the wake of her split, Kidman replied, “I am, because I’m always going to be moving toward what’s good.”

She continued: “What I’m grateful for is my family and keeping them as is and moving forward. That’s that. Everything else I don’t discuss out of respect. I’m staying in a place of, ‘We are a family,’ and that’s what we’ll continue to be. My beautiful girls, my darlings, who are suddenly women.”

Kidman and Urban, both 58, share daughters Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith, 15. Kidman also adopted two children, daughter Isabella, 33, and son Connor, 31, during her first marriage to Tom Cruise. Like Cruise, Isabella and Connor are Scientologists, which has caused distance between them and Kidman.

During a 2018 interview with Australia’s Who magazine, Kidman said her two eldest children are “adults” who can “make their own decisions.”

“They have made choices to be Scientologists, and as a mother, it’s my job to love them, she said. “No matter what your child does … the child has to know there is available love and I’m open here.”

As for her relationship with her and Urban’s daughters, Kidman told Variety that they are “deeply connected and close.”

Kidman and Urban began dating in 2005 and got married the following year. The former couple always spoke highly of each other over the years. During a 2022 appearance on CBS Mornings, Kidman called the country singer “the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”

Urban gushed about Kidman via Instagram in 2023.

“To my gorgeous, sexy, adventurous, curious, nature loving, owl spotting, artist, wife: happy birthday baby,” he wrote. Kidman cited “irreconcilable differences” when filing for divorce in 2025.
