I grew up with my fair share of bullying. Although I was primarily made fun of for my weight, being a bookish nerd who loved Lord of the Rings didn’t exactly help. I was called plenty of hurtful names, and while I admittedly should have stood up for myself more, I never got violent. I knew, even as a kid, it wouldn’t actually solve anything. And yet, plenty of full-grown adults can’t control themselves. Shockingly, a Florida mom went as far as to hold down a child so her children could beat him up for “insulting” her.
Ketsy Ann Rivera, 41, was taken into custody on March 16, 2026, for her part in a brutal beating.
A news release from the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office revealed that authorities were called out to the Heritage Park Apartment Complex in Kissimmee after receiving reports of a disturbance involving minors at a local park. Witnesses told officials that a fight had broken out among three children. It instantly escalated when the kids left and returned with their mothers in tow, per Law & Crime.
Upon arrival, the two mothers, one of whom was Rivera, reportedly got into a verbal altercation.
WFTV9 reported that one witness claimed to hear Rivera call the one child a derogatory term. In return he called her a “fat [redacted].” And that’s when things exploded.
Rivera was reportedly seen pushing her 8- and 9-year-old boys toward the 10-year-old who insulted her and coaching them to hit the victim. Her children allegedly proceeded to hit and punch him, leaving him with a swollen eye as Rivera held onto his shirt.
“She was actually holding him back where he could not even defend himself from the other two boys coming at him or get away from the situation,” Captain Kim Montes with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office told the outlet. “It was three against one.”
In a Facebook post detailing the arrest, community members appeared to be utterly disgusted.
“Mother of the year,” one commenter sarcastically quipped. “Needs parenting classes,” suggested another.
However, a few felt there was a major detail missing from the story: Who started the fight among the kids.
“So was the older kid the one to start all of this,” asked one follower, implying that the context of the situation matters.
The details surrounding the initial confrontation between the kids has not been commented on at the time of publication.
The victim’s mother requested authorities pursue charges against Rivera.
Rivera was allegedly heard saying “I didn’t hit the little boy” before even being questioned, but owned up to instructing her sons to beat him up.
“It’s her job as a mom to come in and try and deescalate this, not ramp it up. And that’s exactly what she did here. She took it to the next level,” Montes added.
Rivera’s bail was set at $12,000, and she now faces three major charges: contributing to the delinquency of a minor, child abuse without great bodily harm, and false imprisonment. The false imprisonment charge was added for holding the boy against his will.
