Dad Drowned Saving Kids From Rip Current Shortly After Learning His Wife’s Expecting Baby #4

Ryan Jennings loved his wife, Emily, and their three children. They recently traveled from North Yarmouth, Maine, to Florida to enjoy some fun in the sun at the beach. On April 1, 2026, Ryan Jennings was swimming with his children on Juno Beach when he noticed two of them had gotten caught in a rip current. The doting father immediately swam out to save them, despite the current. Tragically, he drowned on vacation, leaving his wife and children behind and heartbroken.

The beach had no lifeguard on duty.

The family was at Juno Beach in an area not protected by lifeguards, WMTW reported. According to a statement obtained by the news outlet, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue confirmed that it brought four people to shore and conditions were consistent with a riptide.

“This incident underscores the importance of swimming at guarded beaches, where trained lifeguards can identify hazardous conditions, including rough surf and rip current formation, helping to reduce the risk of incidents before they happen,” the agency noted in a statement.

Emily Jennings shared a devastating Facebook post.

The grieving wife and mother shared her thoughts in a since-deleted Facebook post.

“Ryan lost his battle yesterday, saving our children from a rip current,” she wrote. “He threw Jax to safety to get help and held up my Charlie above water until someone could get to them. His last gift to me was returning my children alive. Our hero, like always,” she wrote.

Emily and Ryan Jennings were best friends. “My soulmate and my best friend – I never want to be away from you,” Emily added in her post. “I always hoped I would leave before you so I never had to spend a day without you. I can’t believe this is where I am at. Our love is one that most people never find.”

The couple had recently learned they were having a fourth baby, WBPF reported.

Loved ones cannot believe Ryan Jennings is gone.

Family friend Geraldine Ollila told WPBF the couple had a beautiful relationship. “Truly, if there is a love story to be told, an ideal family that we all look up to, to emulate, to be like, it is the Jennings family,” Ollila said.

She added that Ryan Jennings died a hero and was an amazing person. The family remains in Florida, but when they return to Maine, the community will be ready, Ollila said.

“They’re in so much pain and deep into grief, but they will overcome it together, and they will be surrounded by a community that loves them,” she shared.

Ollila also created a GoFundMe account to help Emily Jennings and her kids during this very dark time.

“In the wake of this unimaginable tragedy, Emily is now faced with the challenge of caring for her three children and rebuilding her life. The support from friends, family, and the community will help provide for the children’s needs and give Emily the time and resources she needs to get back on her feet,” the fundraiser reads. It’s raised more than $170,000 thus far.

Although life will never be the same, it sounds like the Jennings family has a lot of love and support to get them through. They’re luckier than many who face tragedy alone.
