What to Know
You don’t get to be married to Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, without finding yourself at the center of your own scrutiny. Sorry, I don’t make the rules. Because when Hegseth’s wife, Jennifer Rauchet, stepped out in a dress for the White House Correspondents’ Dinner that people were pretty sure came from Temu, the Internet blew up on her. Someone posted about it on X (formerly Twitter) and even shared a screenshot from Temu, so they came with receipts.
Look, ordering from Temu isn’t really an issue. Millions of Americans do it because it’s affordable when it comes to some items. But for Hegseth’s wife to turn to the app while also appearing to be, like her husband, a bit holier than thou, is the bigger problem. So we just can’t let this one go without diving deep into what so many people are saying about Temu dress-gate.
The dress was listed on Temu and Shein.

If you do an image search on the Temu app, it might not come up with a match to Rauchet’s dress from the event. But it could depend on what country you are based in and whether or not the app suddenly took down the dress. However, according to the X post, and the screenshot from the app, there was a time when Rauchet’s dress was listed for around 12 Euros, or $14.
“Ugh, she’s married to Pete Hegseth, we already know she’s got terrible taste,” someone wrote on X in response to the post.
Another user commented, “I know she didn’t get it from Temu because those packages have been stuck on a boat in the Strait of Hormuz.”
Someone else threw this one into the mix: “I don’t care that she got her dress at Temu. I care that she got her husband at Temu.” Maybe that’s the one statement that everyone can agree on.
Some users responded to the X post to say that the dress was posted on Temu because the company stole the design from somewhere else and that Hegseth’s wife got the dress from the original source. I mean, sure, OK, that’s possible. But other people weren’t convinced.
“Wah wah wah temu steals designs!” The original poster wrote, in reference to those comments. “A) THIS dress design ORIGINATED on Temu/Shein. B) Hard for me to believe it’s not from Temu given that the primary retailers of her bag are Amazon and AliExpress.”
Pete Hegseth’s salary could afford a lot better than that.

According to the Office of Government Ethics, Hegseth has earned millions over the past few years from book advances and royalties and his previous role at Fox News. He reportedly makes around $230,000 per year in his government role under Donald Trump. So yes, he could afford to make sure his wife spends more than the cost of a Subway foot-long sub for her evening attire.
But, according to some, that’s the whole point. Some users commented on that X post to share that they think it’s a good idea for Hegseth’s wife not to spend too much money on clothes of all things. Others pointed out that hegseth’s critics would be equally as annoyed if his wife had spent thousands on a dress.
The dress is still on Shein.

Not only is the dress reportedly on Temu, but there is also a listing on Shein for the same dress. It’s listed for around $42, and it appears to be the exact same one. Then again, as some Pete Hegseth apologists posted on X, there is a more high-end version of the gown. I don’t know if I would call a $139 long version of the dress more couture, but if that’s what people think she bought, as opposed to the Temu version, it’s definitely out there.
