What to Know
Prince William and Kate Middleton just shared a family photo to celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary and the internet has opinions. The so-called “candid” shot of the royal family shows all five members together, lying in a grassy field with their legs in the air and faces that look like they’re having a great time and giggling together. It’s sweet in theory, but in practice, Reddit has declared it’s a little awkward, and they’re not holding back what they think.
The Prince and Princess of Wales shared a family photo to their Instagram to celebrate 15 years of marriage.
Can you believe that it’s actually been 15 years since Prince William married Kate Middleton? In some ways it seems like an absolute lifetime ago since they have three kids now, while in others, it feels like it was just yesterday since we saw them courting as two rosy cheeked young adults.
To celebrate the momentous occasion, Prince William and Kate shared a new photo on their Instagram page of their little family with the caption “Celebrating 15 years of marriage ❤️.” All five members of their family appear to be sharing a bit of a giggle in a grassy field. It’s sweet, really.
In the comments of this post, there are lots of well wishers who are very happy for the longtime royal couple. “Happy Wedding Anniversary Prince and Princess of Wales! 👑 Hope you have a lovely day,” one person wrote. Another person shared, “My fave and happy family..God bless this family forever and ever.”
Unfortunately, on another side of the internet, there’s some people who just can’t seem to fully wrap their heads around this new photo.
Lots of online critics are completely dragging this new ‘candid’ photo of the royal family.
There appears to be lots of things to nitpick when it comes to Prince William and Kate’s latest Instagram share, but a lot of people don’t really get why their family chose to lie down in a grassy field together and take some seemingly candid shots.
One person in this Reddit thread immediately came for the odd photo shoot location. “Wtf is this? lying in a bog? as if,” they shared. Another individual likened to a moment straight out of a popular vampire flick from over a decade ago. “Giving Twilight vibes but even more awkward lol,” they wrote.
While some people are wondering if this is actually a new photo or just one that they royal couple had redone to look new, another person couldn’t help but provide some funny commentary for what might have been said that day. “I just like the fact George looks like he’s turned to his Dad and is saying, ‘WTF are we doing right now?'” they shared.
Another person doesn’t quite buy that this is actually an unposed and natural photo of the family. “Staged the fact that they think people are stupid enough think this is a candid shot,” they wrote. Honestly, we would have to agree!
Some couldn’t help but wonder if the royal family is trying a little too hard in their new photo.

It is safe to say that when you’re a royal family member, you’re never going to please everybody, particularly those who love to get online and share their unsolicited opinions. But this new photo from William and Kate has perhaps brought up some underlying feelings that the family might just be trying a little too hard?
One individual in the Reddit comments doesn’t see why they feel the need to look perfect and super happy all the time when it’s just not natural to real life. “Why do the Royal Family believe that they should project a ‘perfect’, lovey dovey, Enid Blyton style family? It looks so ridiculous to me, particularly after 3 kids,” they wrote.
Another redditor made it seem like they just might be predicting their future. Hopefully not, but you never know. “The people I know who put pics like this on Facebook/Instagram and go on about how blissfully happy they are inevitably the ones who have the craziest breakups/divorces later,” they shared.
Have you ever taken family photos like this and then shared them online only to regret your decision? We’re not likely to ever find out if that’s the case, but it’s interesting to think about!
