What to Know
There’s no world in which Melania Trump gives a speech to a room full of people, at the White House or not, and they don’t snicker at least a little when she says something about Donald Trump. That’s what happened at a Mother’s Day event at the White House, and a clip from the event quickly went viral on X (formerly Twitter). In the clip, Melania specifically calls out her his and for his empathy, and that’s when she gets the laughs.
Publicly, Melania has continued to support Trump as the president and as her husband. There have been rumors of marital issues, especially since some people claim Melania spends more time in warmer climates than Washington, D.C., but as fast as being the first lady goes, she certainly does her duty. But making a crowd of people laugh when she spoke seriously about Trump is probably not part of those first lady duties.
Apparently, the idea of Trump having empathy is a literal joke.

In her speech, Melania says, “Most know my husband as the strong commander-in-chief, but his empathy transcends the role.” At this, Trump, who is standing near her, gives a self-depricating smile and it’s at this point that the crowd laughs. Are they laughing at Trump’s gesture or what Melania said? Some believe it’s the latter rather than the former.
Melania goes on to say that Trump is “a caring leader who constantly remembers each and every American soldier is someone’s child.”
Users on X replied to the post with the clip from the White House event to say that the man Melania is describing is not the same man who came in hot for his second term as president.
“Melania sorry sweetheart that’s not how we know your husband, but of course you know this,” one user wrote.
Another commented, “Everything about Melania and the Trump family is fake and fraudulent. Trump’s empathy? More fake than Melania’s Visa application.” Yikes.
“Empathy. The last word any rational human being would utter in conjunction with this sociopathic empathy void,” a commenter added. “Notably the crowd erupted in laughter, as did the sociopath himself.”
And another person pointed out, “Even they themselves find this claim absurd.”
Someone joked that Melania was paid to give the speech.
One person commented to jokingly speculate that Melania was paid as a celebrity model to give the speech for her husband. Someone also joked that Melania got a “bonus” for meeting with King Charles ll and Queen Camilla when they visited the White House. Hence, her willingness to do this speech.
Others made fun of her accent and replied to the video to say that Melania’s English isn’t so great, so she probably didn’t know what she meant when she used the word “empathy’ to describe Trump.
Other people poked fun at other parts of her speech.

Someone wrote in another X post that part of Melania’s speech for Mother’s Day said, “If you’re married to a rich elderly man, you must become a mom to seal the deal.” If Melania had actually said that, she might have gotten the same amused laughs as she got when she said Trump is empathetic. And anyway, did she mean “apathetic”? It’s possible.
Although Melania is the first lady and, therefore, in charge of speaking on important public issues and publicly praising her husband (gag), it doesn’t mean she is automatically qualified to do so.
“She is such an annoying person,” an X user wrote. “Marrying into wealth doesn’t make you a role model.”
