What to Know
It’s truly amazing just how many people tend to get all up in arms about the message of inclusivity and acceptance during the month of June during pride. You would think that the very concept would be wholly encouraged by all parents, but sadly, that’s not the case.
A video featuring a school principal wearing a pride shirt while directing parents in the carpool lineup has gone viral after an inquisitive parent pushes back against the idea of school staff wearing pride gear to school. The really great part to see is just how little the principal cares about this woman’s opinion!
A school principal is simply not having it when a parent in the carpool line questions her pride shirt.
Originally shared by Caramel Magazine, a video has recently gone viral that shows the carpool line at a school in Davis, California, where the principal is questioned about her pride shirt by an in-your-face parent.
Taking a look at this interaction, you immediately get the sense that the parent doesn’t seem to get on with the idea of teaching kids that an inclusive school is the way to go.
The video shows the parent pulling up in her car and asking a woman directing the carpool drop-off about what’s going on today. In a no-nonsense tone, she promptly tells her, “It’s school.” The parent follows up with, “Why are you wearing that shirt today?” The woman who works at the school then says, “Um, well, ’cause I like to be in clothing.” Such an incredible response to very a stupid question.
The parent then asks her what her shirt says and she replies, “It says ‘All are welcome here.'” Now, here’s the truly nonsensical part. After hearing that, the woman asks, “Do you think that all parents want to see this at their school?”
The disgruntled parent actually states that she’s not the only parent who feels this way.

When the woman in the pride shirt working the carpool lineup confirms that most parents would be perfectly okay with this concept, she kindly asks her to move along because “traffic is backing up.” The parent doesn’t seem to want to stop there because she then tells her, “I had a mother send me a note saying that she doesn’t want this at school.”
That’s when it’s confirmed that the woman working the carpool line is indeed the principal and she tells the parent in the car that if there’s someone who has an issue with their pride shirts, they can come and talk to her directly.
As the principal is repeatedly trying to get the mom to keep things moving at school drop-off lane, the mom tells her that she’s going to come in and see her to have a discussion. Someone in the Facebook comments section couldn’t help but state what we’re all thinking: “Plot twist: she never came back for that ‘talk.'”
People in the comments are baffled by this parent taking offense to a message of “all are welcome.”

It’s so unfortunate when hateful or discriminatory people take messages of inclusivity and try and turn them into something bad. One individual in the Facebook comments put things very simply by saying, “Imagine being upset that a school welcomes all kids.” It’s really quite astounding.
Someone in this Reddit thread discussing the video was confused that the woman who recorded the video decided to make it public since it makes her look so bad. They wrote, “The person complaining about the T-shirt was the one who posted this? They genuinely feel that they are on the right side of this argument? It’s hard to believe just how divided society is becoming.”
Someone who claims to live in the Davis area where this video was allegedly recorded couldn’t help but share their perspective on Reddit. “I am from Davis. Davis is a small town and the person recording is notoriously known as the local “conservative crazy lady.” She shows up at queer events, on campus etc etc to film and harass everyone. She’s best ignored. No one likes her lol,” they wrote. Well, there you have it.
The really great thing about this viral video is that it shows a school principal doing the right thing for their students and showing an assertive presence when it comes to standing up to hate!
