Jennifer Lopez Bragged About Her Twins’ College Scholarships & the Backlash Was Immediate

Who could ever fault a proud mom for bragging about her kids? Apparently, a whole lot of people. Now that Jennifer Lopez’s twins Max and Emme have graduated high school, the singer is letting the world know that they each got into multiple colleges that they applied to — and not only that, but that they were both offered scholarships based on their hard work.

There’s just one problem: People don’t exactly want to hear about a celebrity’s kids getting scholarships when plenty of every day students are struggling to pay for college.

J.Lo bragged about her kids during a new interview.

While chatting with Extra this week, Jennifer bragged about her kids’ latest accomplishments — much like any mom of new grads who are college bound would want to do.

“I am so proud that they set goals for themselves. They all got into all five colleges that they applied to,” she said. “They both got a scholarship to each, you know, one scholarship to each. Each one got a scholarship to a school. And I just felt like they work so hard.”

Their achievements didn’t come without challenges, either, Jennifer explained.

“They have ADHD, and so they need to learn differently, and there were struggles,” she admitted. “I’m just so proud of them because they did what they said they were going to do, and they’re good people.”

That’s all that any mom wants, right?

People aren’t exactly impressed.

There’s a big discussion on X about J.Lo’s comments, with many people sharing that they don’t think Max and Emme should have been awarded scholarships when there’s clearly no financial need for it in their family.

“Celebs get free designer clothes, etc., free passes to events, while regular people have to pay and pay,” one person responded to the post above.

“Why are they applying for scholarships when their mom can easily pay their fees?! Scholarships shouldn’t go to people who can actually afford college! Defeats the whole purpose of them,” another person added.

Max and Emme will leave for college in the fall.

If Jennifer is aware of the backlash, she’s not showing it. Instead, she gushed over her twins’ bright futures even more while talking to Andy Cohen during an appearance on the June 8 episode of Watch What Happens Live. She shared that she’s preparing to be an empty nester now that her kids are set to leave for school in August.

“It’s an emotional time. It’s been the three of us,” J.Lo said. “People have come in and out of my life, but it’s been the three of us. They’ve always been there, and I’ve always been there.”

No word on whether or not Max and Emme actually accepted the scholarships they were offered, but if they earned them based on merit, is it still fair to take them, despite their parents’ ability to pay?
