Chrissy Teigen Is Being Criticized for Sharing Photos From Her Dad’s Funeral on Social Media

Chrissy Teigen and her family are mourning a major loss. Earlier this month, Chrissy revealed that her father, Ron Teigen Sr., had died, and as she and her loved ones paid tribute to him at his funeral this week, she shared photos from the gathering on Instagram.

But after the model and chef made moments from the funeral public on social media, people have a lot of opinions. Apparently, there is a wrong way to grieve.

Chrissy announced her dad’s death on June 10.

In an Instagram post that Chrissy has since deleted, she shared photos and videos of her father, revealing that he had died the day before.

“Yesterday I woke up with a daddy and went to bed without one,” she wrote in the post, according to People. “All the same things happened. Hurried shower. Picked up stuffing from the dog toys. Answered some emails. Avoided some. Laughed with my friends and put on a pretty dress for a friend’s birthday. Took a video. How cute is this dress! And then my dad just like…f—ing died.”

She added, “I thought that since we talk about it and I’ve come to terms with him always having been an ‘old dad’ that I wouldn’t have fallen to the ground the way I did. I’ve thought about this phone call for years. I’ll be ready.”

But she wasn’t ready, of course, when the time did eventually come. Is anyone?

She later shared a photo from the funeral on her Instagram Stories.

On Tuesday, Chrissy shared a photo that was taken at her dad’s funeral. In the picture, she could be seen sitting on the ground in front of her dad’s coffin, which is covered in flowers. On either side of her, husband John Legend and oldest daughter Luna are sitting beside her, wrapping their arms around her.

It’s a sweet moment in the midst of her grief, and it’s good to see that her family was there to support her in it, especially knowing that John rescheduled his recent concerts so he could make it home as quickly as possible after his father-in-law had died.

People don’t think she should have made such a private moment public.

In the comments on People‘s Facebook post about Chrissy’s dad’s funeral, many people shared their disapproval.

“I know that people in the public eye are used to being photographed all the time but something like this should be private,” one commenter wrote.

Another person commented, “I get so sick of treating celebrities like their grief, illness, or whatever it is they’re going through is so much more significant because they’re famous. They’re literally regular people. Lots of people’s dads die, we don’t send the photogs to capture it. Especially with her. It’s like she wants to be seen during every tragedy she’s ever experienced.”

At the end of the day, grief is a very personal thing… and that means that we each get to choose what feels right to us when mourning the loss of someone we loved. If it made Chrissy feel better to share that moment, who is anyone to judge?
