There is no competition for the internet’s favorite negligent mother, but that’s what some believe to be the case when it comes to Lindsay Clancy and influencer mom Emilie Kiser. Clancy is accused of intentionally killing her three children due to postpartum mental health struggles. Kiser came under fire when her toddler son drowned in her family’s pool under the supervision of her husband, Brady Kiser.
But the internet has shared thoughts on both moms and there is an overarching feeling of support or at least understanding when it comes to Clancy versus Emilie. This is why some have questioned why there seems to be a strange double standard for the two women. The crimes are very different, but in both cases, parents lost their children. Yet to some, including in the comments under a TikTok video, there is a big difference in how they are thought of and how they are perceived by other parents.

Although Emilie and Clancy both lose children in tragic ways, the alleged crimes involved in both cases are vastly different. What’s also different is Clancy’s legal team’s claims of the mother of three being weighed down by postpartum psychosis after the birth of her 8-month-old. That might be where the sympathy, or at least the wider berth of understanding, comes in for some.
Those who have experience with postpartum mental health struggles might understand how Clancy could potentially commit such horrific acts, given the state of the mental health stigmas, especially for mothers.
“She was prescribed 13 meds in 4 months,” one person commented on the TikTok. “This is not her fault. The medical community did this. Even when she tried to get herself hospitalized prior to this they denied her and sent her back to the same doctors. Like WTF.”
“Unpopular opinion, but I feel very bad for her,” another person shared in the comments. “I’m also mad at what she did. I’m also mad that her husband let her do it. Everybody failed her and those kids.”
On the other hand, some people believe that Emilie and Brady could have prevented what had happened to their child, had they not been negligent in pool safety and supervision. Even after his death, users came for her on social media, particularly in a Reddit thread about pool safety, asking if she had yet put a safety fence around her pool, as users had urged Emilie to do in the weeks leading up to the accident.

Although there are some who believe that Clancy is being treated more fairly by the public, or at least given more grace, Emilie and Brady did not face legal ramifications of the tragic accident that their son, Trigg Kiser, was the victim of. According to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office in Phoenix, Ariz., Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced that no charges would move forward against Brady in the accidental drowning.
Local authorities recommended that Brady be charged with a felony count of child abuse, but no charges were filed against him in the end. Still, the internet has been fierce in sharing harsh words for both Emilie and her husband in the wake of their child’s death in 2025.There’s even a Change.org petition for investigators to re-open the case. But when compared to the public’s treatment of Clancy, things are a bit different.

In July 2026, a little more than a year after Emilie and Brady lost their son due to the drowning, a video began to circulate on social media showing their 16-month old son with them on a boat without a life jacket. For some, this was a head shaking moment of wondering whether or not the Kisers had learned anything from the tragedy that befell them the year previously.
On a Reddit thread about Emilie making a statement regarding taking full responsibility for the safety oversight on the boat, a user wrote, “She already paid the ultimate price for her negligence and that’s something she can’t come back from. But I at least hoped she’d learn from her mistakes. To lose a child to drowning and then put your remaining child in similar situations a year later is an almost unimaginable level of carelessness.”
