On July 27, 2026, mother of two Helena Wright reportedly jumped from a cliff in South Australia with her two young children in her arms. A fisherman found the bodies of Wright and her 2-year-old daughter, Hazel, floating in the waters below.
The body of her 3-month-old son, Lewis, remains unaccounted for. Sadly, it appears Wright went to the police the day before she died for help but was allegedly turned away. Now her husband, Brad Wright, is left to grieve the loss of his wife and two children to circumstances that might have been preventable.
A friend reportedly contacted police for help.
According to the Daily Mail, Wright went to the Mt Gambier police on July 26 for help but was allegedly turned away. A friend called police the next day asking for a welfare check on Wright. When police got to the family’s home, Brad Wright had already left for work, and his wife and children were nowhere to be found.
Police later found the mother of two’s SUV abandoned with the engine running at the Cape Northumberland car park. Photos obtained by the outlet appear to show a happy wife and mother enjoying her life.
Police released very few details about the deaths.
Though Wright and her children died in an apparent murder-suicide, the details surrounding their deaths remain quiet. Per a release from State Emergency Services obtained by ABC News Australia, police intend to thoroughly investigate the mother and children’s deaths.
“While there is understandable community interest in the circumstances leading to this tragedy, it is essential that investigators are allowed to conduct a thorough and methodical investigation before conclusions are drawn or information is released publicly,” the statement said.
“Premature release of unverified information risks compromising the integrity of the investigation and may cause further distress to family members already grieving an unimaginable loss.”
Neighbors confirmed the Wrights had a happy marriage and loved their children.
One of the family’s neighbors told Daily Mail they wanted to squash any rumors about Wright.
“She was obviously troubled and obviously depressed,” she said. “Brad was a tremendous father who adored his wife. It’s very disappointing what people are saying. It’s absolutely horrendous. They are very private people.”
The neighbor added there was no doubt in her mind that both Brady and Helena Wright adored their children. “Hazel was the most beautiful little girl,” the neighbor said through tears.
Loved ones want to help Brad Wright during this inconceivably difficult time.
Losing your entire family at one time is a pain no one can prepare for or should ever have to endure. Brad Wright’s friends want to help ease that pain and started a GoFundMe. They’ve raised more than $25,000 thus far.
“On the 27th of July, Helena stepped from a cliff with her beautiful babies in her arms into the arms of her waiting savior, and we are left with Brad and his amazing family to keep moving on,” a post on the fundraiser reads.
“Man the Lord provides, in this darkest hour, with broken Aussie family’s and mates from country south-east South Australia and further afield – even so far as Estonia, Denmark and the USA – providing love, support, Lasagna, strong hugs, tears, immense pain, Joy and true mate ship. We are asking for help to finance a funeral, flights for Helena’s family from Estonia, cover some costs and help Brad to keep on keeping on.”
