There’s seriously no bond that’s quite like the connection you share with your sister. You come from the same place and grow up together. All of the late night slumber parties in the same bed and giggling your way through doing your makeup together for your first big school dance. If you have a strong relationship with your sister, it’s an attachment that can often remain unmatched throughout your entire life.
This could certainly be said for two sisters from the UK who are sharing their unique story. One of the sisters, Lauren, was born without a uterus but longed to be a mother. In an extraordinary twist, after finding out that uterus transplants exist, she called up her sister, Kelly, and they started the steps for a womb transplant. Amazingly enough, after the procedure, Lauren is now pregnant with her first child!
This woman got pregnant after receiving a uterus transplant from her sister.
During an appearance on the UK talk show, This Morning, Lauren Fowler revealed that she’s 26 weeks pregnant with her first child, which is quite miraculous, considering she was born with a congenital condition called Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome.
With diagnosis as a teen, Lauren found herself heartbroken to learn that she was born without a uterus, which would make it impossible for her to carry her own biological children.
When she learned about some clinical trials in 2010 for womb transplants, Lauren never let go of that hope deep inside her, even though initially they were only with deceased donors. Years later, when she discovered that they were starting to do uterus transplants with live donors, she excitedly called her sister, Kelly, to tell her that things were changing and she might just be a mom someday.
It was then when her sister told her that after she was done having children of her own, this was something she would “absolutely” do for her. What an incredible gift!
Unfortunately, the surgery was not without its hiccups and difficulties.
In May 2025, Lauren and Kelly went into the uterus transplant surgery.
Lauren shared on This Morning that the transplant went “extremely well,” as she was even discharged after a week because she was feeling so good. However, after the transplant, she ended up needing two more surgeries to deal with obstructions, which was “a really hard time.”
In a post she shared on her Instagram that highlights her fertility and uterus transplant journey, she posted a series of photos titled “I have a womb!” from her recovery. In the post, she shared some of the hardships she experienced after the transplant.
“It has tested me beyond anything I could have imagined, draining every fibre of my being and forcing me to search desperately for just a tiny bit more strength each day,” she wrote.
Afterward, she also dealt with injections that helped keep her blood thin to flow smoothly to the uterus and continual hospital visits and check-ups.
This sweet family, especially the kids, are connected in an incredible way.
Now that Lauren is in her third trimester of pregnancy, Kelly has told her three children that they are going to have a new cousin soon who came about in a truly unique way.
“The kids are really excited to meet their cousin. And the fact they’ve got that special, little bond because of the shared womb,” Kelly shared on This Morning.
Also, going through the transplant surgery together has brought the sisters even closer than they were before. “We’ve always been close anyway, but I don’t think we could go through something like we have and it not make a difference and bring us closer together,” Kelly said.
Lauren is due in October and hopes to bring awareness to those living with similar conditions where a uterus transplant may be an option.
