18 Really Bad Movies That We Still Love To Watch

Listen, we love movies. We watch all the movies. There's something in nearly every genre that we can appreciate, and we'll give any film that looks even a bit compelling a chance. So when a truly terrible film comes out and we still kind of get a kick out of it, we're honestly not ashamed.

Most movies are meant for entertainment purposes, and even some awful movies are seriously entertaining. So there's no way we could ever be movie snobs. There are quite a few films that are honestly really bad, but we still love to watch them.

Now, most of these movies fall into either the comedy or action categories, but there are also some terrible dramas that we still enjoy watching. There's something to be said for just being able to sit down in front of the screen and not have to think too much. Sometimes, we just need to chill — and movies that are more silly than serious help us do just that.

We don't care if these movies are bad. When we simply need to put something on to veg out in front of, these are the films we turn to over and over. Keep scrolling to find out which ones we're talking about and see if you actually kind of like them, too.

'The Matrix Resurrections'

After 17 years, a new movie was added to the Matrix franchise in 2021, and let's just say, we're not sure we really needed it. We watched the entire thing and still had no clue what was going on. But, you know what? It entertained us for the entire two and a half hours, and we'd probably watch it again.

'Scary Movie'

The Scary Movie films are bad — like really, really bad — but they're also kind of hilarious. If you just need a good laugh and you're cool with it coming from something absolutely ridiculous, these are the movies to watch. Five of them have been made, so clearly people love to watch them.

'Eurotrip'

The 2004 movie Eurotrip, starring Michelle Trachtenberg, Jacob Pitts, and Travis Wester, is absolutely ludicrous and totally raunchy, but it's still so much fun to watch. Plus, it's nostalgic. There's even a cameo from none other than Matt Damon. Teen movies were the best in the early oughties!

'Deep Blue Sea'

The 1999 film Deep Blue Sea features an all-star cast — including Samuel L. Jackson, LL Cool J, Thomas Jane, and Michael Rappaport — so it should be a great sci-fi/action movie. But while it's definitely entertaining, it's so poorly written. These days, it's just fun to watch and chuckle at the clunky special effects.

'BASEketball'

The 1998 comedy BASEketball is terrible, but we all loved it then and we'll still watch it now because it's one of those movies that transports you right back to a certain time period. Featuring the creators of South Park, it's a silly film about a made-up sport that makes us laugh every single time.

'Empire Records'

The fashion and the epic soundtrack made us all swoon over Empire Records — starring Liv Tyler, Renée Zellweger, and Debi Mazar — in the '90s, but honestly, the movie isn't really all that great. It is a classic coming-of-age tale full of so much '90s nostalgia, though, that we still get excited when we see it on TV.

'The Fast and the Furious'

Sure, the original movie from the Fast & Furious franchise wasn't terrible, but let's be honest: The rest of them are. But that's kind of why we love them and will always watch them and every new film that's released. We know exactly what we're going to get, and they always deliver.

'Napoleon Dynamite'

We still don't quite know how the 2004 movie Napoleon Dynamite was such a huge hit. It's not a great movie by any means, but it will forever be a part of American pop culture. There are so many unforgettable lines and moments in that movie (spawning countless memes), and we are so into it whenever we see or hear anything about it. #voteforpedro

'Talladega Nights'

Talladega Nights, starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, is absolutely awful, but we love it so much — Will tends to have that effect on us. It's so ridiculously funny for no real reason that we can't help but enjoy it every time we watch it. It's a comedy classic!

'Magnolia'

So here's the thing about the 1999 Tom Cruise movie Magnolia: We really thought it was going to be fantastic, and then we watched it and it was totally bizarre — but not in a good way. Still, every time we see it, we feel like it's going to be really good because it totally should have been, so we watch it again, and it's still just as … meh as the first time.

'Crossroads'

The 2002 film Crossroads, starring Britney Spears, Zoe Saldana, and Taryn Manning, is undeniably terrible, but we still get excited when we see it on TV. We kind of think it's because when we were teens we really, really wanted to be them — and those feelings come right back any time we come across the movie.

'Rambo'

You know what we think it is … we remember watching the Rambo movies with our dads, so when we see or hear anything about Rambo, we immediately profess our love for the franchise because we associate it with our dads and we love them so much. Does that make sense? Yeah, it makes sense.

'Obsessed'

The 2009 movie Obsessed, starring Beyoncé, Idris Elba, and Ali Larter, just isn't any good. But it's Beyoncé and Idris Elba, so we watch it anyway. If we're being honest, Queen Bey's acting isn't great in any of the movies she's been in, so we don't know why we keep watching. Maybe because we're looking for anything to redeem her acting.

'Cocktail'

Tom Cruise is one of the few major movie stars to come out of the '80s, and we'd like to think that everything he did back then was golden. But despite its popularity, Cocktail is pretty crappy. The premise is totally '80s and really silly, but Tom is so cute in the movie that we watch it anyway. We always think it's going to be as good as Risky Business, but it's just not.

'Idle Hands'

Idle Hands, the 1999 horror-comedy starring Devon Sawa, is mediocre at best, but we thought it was the coolest thing back in the day, and for that reason alone, we'll still happily watch it any day, any time. The '90s brought us some seriously wacky movies, didn't they?

'Lucky Numbers'

Lucky Numbers stars John Travolta and Lisa Kudrow in their prime. Everyone loved them when this movie came out in 2000. Guess we were so blinded by their stardom that a lot of us didn't realize how bad this movie actually was until we rewatched it years later. Yet we still kind of love seeing the two of them during this time period, so we'll watch it again.

'Rocky V'

Rocky V is arguably the worst of all the Rocky movies. But those of us who grew up in a certain time period consider the franchise a classic, and if you're a fan, you don't just skip over Rocky V because it's a stinker; you power through. Plus, there's always a certain level of excitement and emotion when you turn on any Rocky movie, and that kind of makes even this one worth watching.

'Showgirls'

Listen, we can all agree that the 1995 movie Showgirls isn't great cinema, but it's still intriguing. The movie, about a woman determined to become a Vegas showgirl, actually has a good premise, but it's poorly acted and the script isn't much better. Still, it's one of those movies that's so bad it's actually kind of good.
