This year has been one of the strangest we've ever encountered. Many events and trips had to be canceled. People stopped gathering in large groups. But love found a way to persevere. So many celebrities got married in 2020, despite all of the hardships and restrictions. Most of the ceremonies were scaled way back — just a few guests, if any, outdoor locations, livestreamed nuptials. Stars made changes so they could still say "I do" this year.
Some celebs were lucky — they tied the knot from January through March, before things got bad and people started staying home. They had the weddings of their dreams. But even for those who had to alter plans to head to the altar, the biggest takeaway is it doesn't really matter what the ceremony itself looks like. It just matters that they were committing to the person they loved the most.
Here are 20 stars who walked down the aisle in this chaotic year and proved that love always wins.
Kathy Griffin & Randy Bick
Comedian Kathy Griffin rang in the new year by marrying her longtime boyfriend, Randy Bick. Actress Lily Tomlin officiated the ceremony at Kathy's home, and the whole ceremony was just about 12 minutes long. Since this was pre-pandemic, they could have had a big shindig, they just chose to keep it small and memorable.
Brandon Jenner & Cayley Stoker
Caitlyn Jenner's son, Brandon Jenner, also had a small ceremony, even though his wedding took place in January. According to People, the wedding happened at the local courthouse with his daughter and grandmother-in-law serving as witnesses. Cayley was heavily pregnant at the time with twins.
Frankie Muniz & Paige Price
The Malcolm in the Middle star eloped last year, but he and his wife, Paige, decided to also have a ceremony earlier in February. "I always thought it was such a cliché for people to claim their wedding day as the best day of their life, like maybe it was something they had to say," Frankie told People magazine. "No, my wedding day was literally the best day of my life!"
Brittany Snow & Tyler Stanaland
The Pitch Perfect star tied the knot right before the world shut down in March. She had about 100 guests at her wedding, so she got it in just under the wire. In an Instagram post reflecting on the big day and the events that came after, Brittany talked about how grateful she was to have her husband by her side during this chaotic time.
Bindi Irwin & Chandler Powell
Steve Irwin's daughter, Bindi Irwin, got married in March to her longtime boyfriend, Chandler Powell. Now, the two are expecting their first child together (a girl!), and Bindi's been having so much fun comparing the size of her growing baby to different animals at their zoo. Most recently, she was about the size of a mountain pygmy-possum.
Debby Ryan & Josh Dun
Actress Debby Ryan married Twenty One Pilots musician Josh Dun on New Year's Eve, but they kept the ceremony a secret for months. Fans began to figure things out when Josh was spotted wearing a ring in his "Level of Concern" music video that dropped in April. In May, they confirmed the news with a giant Vogue magazine article.
Raven-Symoné & Miranda Maday
In general, Raven-Symoné has been very private about her personal life, but when she married Miranda Pearman-Maday in June, she shouted it from the rooftops — aka she posted about it on Instagram. "I got married to a woman who understands me from trigger to joy, from breakfast to midnight snack, from stage to home," the former child star gushed.
Taylor Cole & Cameron Larson
In a TV love story come to life, Hallmark actress Taylor Cole recently tied the knot with one of Hallmark's producers Cameron Larson. The two interacted on set of films like Appetite for Love and My Summer Prince, eventually falling in love. We'd like to see this become a movie please.
Princess Beatrice & Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi
Her big royal wedding got canceled, but Princess Beatrice still made things official with her now-husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, in July with a small ceremony. Only about 20 people attended, including her grandmother, Queen Elizabeth. Beatrice wore a stunning beaded dress, and the same tiara the Queen wore for her own wedding in 1947.
Niecy Nash & Jessica Betts
Actress Niecy Nash's Instagram photo from her wedding to singer Jessica Betts served as both a marriage announcement and a coming out celebration for those who didn't know she was interested in women. However, Niecy told People magazine that she didn't think of it as a coming out, "but rather a going into myself and being honest about who I love."
Elizabeth Gillies & Michael Corcoran
After dating for six years, Dynasty star Elizabeth Gillies and her record producer boyfriend Michael Corcoran tied the knot. They got married in August, in a small outdoor ceremony with just 10 guests. The small size and location were designed to keep everyone safe during this chaotic time, and the couple even drove to the venue in an RV, because they didn't want to risk flying.
David Harbour & Lily Allen
Stranger Things star David Harbour married singer Lily Allen in September, in an Elvis-themed Las Vegas wedding. Directly after the event, they went and ate burgers at the fast food chain In-N-Out. (Lily wore her Dior dress to the restaurant and everything.) Very unlike most celebrity weddings, that's for sure.
Tavior Mowry & Zandy Fitzgerald
Tia and Tamera Mowry's little brother, Tavior, wed his girlfriend, singer Zandy Fitzgerald, in September. He couldn't stop gushing about his bride on Instagram, writing, "God is GOOD" on a photo of them. Zandy also posted a picture from the big day and captioned it, "God writes the best stories."
Emma Stone & Dave McCary
So far Emma Stone and her Saturday Night Live director husband Dave McCary have kept their marriage to themselves. They are a very private couple, so don't expect them to share ceremony pictures any time soon — but they did give the news away a bit when they were spotted wearing matching wedding rings.
Joel Courtney & Mia Scholink
It was out of the kissing booth and down the aisle for Kissing Booth star Joel Courtney. He wed his longtime girlfriend Mia Scholink in September. "I am just so thrilled to be married," Joel told People magazine. "It's one of those things where as much planning and as much anticipation goes into the day, I'm so excited to be married to my best friend." Aww.
Zak Williams & Olivia June
Robin Williams' oldest son, Zak, got married to his longtime sweetheart Olivia June on October 10. The date was significant because it was World Mental Health Day. Zak's father died by suicide in 2014, and Zak has been an active advocate for mental health ever since.
Cynthia Bailey & Mike Hill
The Real Housewives of Atlanta star Cynthia Bailey tied the knot in October to TV personality Mike Hill in a rather large wedding, considering the time and year. Entertainment Tonight reported that 250 guests attended, including several of her RHOA cast mates — like Kandi Burruss, Kenya Moore, and Eva Marcille — as bridesmaids.
Courtney Robertson & Humberto Preciado
In 2012, Courtney Robertson was engaged to Bachelor Ben Flajnik — but their television love story didn't end up working out. Now, in 2020, Courtney is married to the father of her young son, Joaquin, instead. In October, she and Humberto Preciado walked down the aisle in a small ceremony in Sedona, Arizona.
Fortune Feimster & Jacquelyn Smith
Mindy Project star Fortune Feimster married Jacquelyn Smith in October in a small beach ceremony. Their little dog was the ring bearer, which sounds so cute. The duo also livestreamed the nuptials for friends and family who couldn't com. Fortune promised on Instagram that they will have a big celebration when it's safe to do so again.
Scarlett Johansson & Colin Jost
Actress Scarlett Johansson and Saturday Night Live star Colin Jost wed in late October. According to CNN, they partnered with the charity program Meals on Wheels to announce the news. The move helped bring in donations to the cause that they've both been supporting. On the next SNL episode, following his wedding, Colin was seen wearing a wedding band.
