It's been 15 (!) years since one of Hollywood's most famous couples, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston, split up. (Hard to believe, right?) A lot changes in 15 years — including the price of real estate. The luxurious, classic Beverly Hills home that Brad and Jen bought just after they exchanged vows recently sold for more than double what they paid for it back in 2000.
The 11,173-square-foot home already had considerable cachet as one of the first movie star mansions, built back in 1934, but Brad and Jen moved in and quickly made it their own with several major renovations — including heated kitchen floors, a brand new pub with 200-year-old French wood floors, a screening room, and tennis court.
The recent listing and sale finally gave us a chance to see the incredible interior, and the personal touches that the supercouple left. Clearly, their improvements were worth the investment. After paying $13.5 million in 2002, the mansion just sold for $32.5 million. Brad and Jen's love didn't last, unfortunately, but the updates they made to this home definitely did.
Let's go on a tour!
Classic Movie Star Mansion
Brad and Jen's former home is one of the oldest movie star abodes in Hollywood. It was built in 1934 for Fredric March, an actor from Hollywood's Golden Age who won the Oscar for his lead role in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. We can see how the design influenced future architecture and landscaping in Beverly Hills, and the surrounding area.
Lush Front Entrance
It's amazing how, from a distance, the home seems palatial and vast. But the entrance to the home is quaint and cozy. The eggshell-colored brick, and Spanish-style roof pair with lush landscaping to create a homey vibe.
It's glam but so relaxed!
Open Poolside Life
No California home fit for a star can exist without a poolside lounge area that brings the outside in. We can definitely seeing ourselves drying off in the sun and strolling in here after a long swim — or after pigging out on a huge barbecue. That couch is asking for a nap to be taken in it.
Renovated Kitchen
A galley kitchen wide enough to avoid bumping butts with a cooking partner? (We love it.) Brad and Jen renovated the whole kitchen, adding heat underneath black and white slabs of marble. Nothing like having toasty toes while brewing that first coffee of the day.
Formal Dining Room
This is a nice formal dining room, but to be honest, the dining set and rug are puzzling choices. The space has a Hollywood feel, and the decor reads a little more middle America or Main Street. A 12-seat dining table, however, is definitely appealing as the holidays approach.
Bright Seating Area
We can just imagine Hollywood denizens — from agents to starlets to big time producers — hanging out in this totally glam, Hollywood Regency sitting room. Wainscoting and a floor-to-ceiling fireplace surround create a statement wall in white, and splashes of color add to the brightness. The bench in the back is called a recamier, and it looks like the perfect spot for a side convo involving a huge movie deal.
Outdoor Dining
This is a house clearly designed with a focus on outdoor living. The warmth of this patio looks like a perfect place for a summer evening dinner. It looks over the pool — swimming makes us hungry!
Full Bar
These are the floors that are 200 years old and come from a French chateau. They are nice, even though they don't have an "old" feel. The room for a full bar — from bottom to top shelf — is also very nice. Would Brad and Jen even have bottom-shelf liquor? We think not.
Multi-Purpose Room
Loving working from home? It has its perks and its pain points, for sure, but if we had an office like this it would be a lot easier. It looks great for working, reading, writing, playing board games, watching TV — or an audition tape — and just thinking and relaxing. But is there a fridge for snacks? Then it would be perfect.
Luxe Media Room
This doesn't have the Hollywood glam of other spaces in the house, but it definitely is luxurious in its own right. That wide screen would make for amazing viewing in a home with so many seating areas. We'd like a proper movie screening room with rows of comfy chairs, but it's still a cozy room nonetheless.
Sweat Room
A great home gym with all the basics. We're not sure this is the kind of gym Brad would have needed to maintain his post-Fight Club physique. Where are the weight stacks and squat racks? Oh right, Jen and Brad lived here in the beforetimes when people could actually go to the gym.
Cozy Bedroom
This is one of five bedrooms in the mansion. (It also has 13 bathrooms. That's a lot of bathrooms.) We imagine this is not the master suite, but perhaps, a guest room. Looks cozy enough to make ourselves right at home, quickly!
Like a Pro
How could ya not be up for trying a tennis match — or set, or game, depending on stamina — after watching Naomi Osaka win the U.S. Open? Tennis pros will have a happy audience in the pavilion cheering them on. For those not on top of their game, there will only be a few friends watching the embarrassment.
Three-Car Garage & Space for Guests
Three-car garages are standard in homes at this price point — but let's just imagine for a minute not having to beg partners or teenage children to move their cars, so ya can go to work or out for a spa day. Another bonus? Tons of guests can come over for big parties and celebrations and not have to worry about looking for parking.
Recharge & Relax Poolside
Ah! After a long hard day of shooting scenes, negotiating contracts, avoiding the paparazzi, and working out for hours on end, there's nothing like relaxing in front of a nice, big pool. It's big enough for laps, and beautiful enough for lounging in lazy glamor. Even though Jen and Brad clearly had relationship ups and downs in this home, we hope they got to spend a lot of quality time together in this luxurious space.
