Britney Spears tried to calm her fans down after a recent knife-dancing video created cause for concern. Amid her divorce from Sam Asghari, she posted a bizarre new video. Although it may have seemed like one of her typical dancing videos, she wielded a pair of kitchen knives to accompany her moves.
Naturally, her fans — and the public — expressed their concern for her safety, which prompted the pop star to not only amend her original post but also to share a new post clarifying her inspiration for the knife dance.

Britney seems to think her fans are overreacting.
“Lighten up about the knives I’m copying Shakira,” she captioned the post.
Shakira danced with knives during her performance at the Video Music Awards earlier this month. Spears has notably disabled comments on the latest video, erasing comments on the knife video as well.
She also edited her original post, claiming the knives are for Halloween.
Spears edited the caption on her original dance video to assure her fans that she wasn’t using real kitchen knives, despite fans hearing the clinking of the knives in the video.
“I started playing in the kitchen with knives today ♀️ ♀️ ♀️ !!! Don’t worry they are NOT real knives !!! Halloween is soon !!!” she wrote.
She may have hurt herself with the knives.
Spears posted a series of videos of herself dancing in the same outfit as the knife video. In the first video, she appears fine, but in the second video, she has a visible white bandage on her arm and a small cut on her leg.
“My ‘Pretty Woman’ top … kinda cool after my briefing on polka dots !!!! Swipe to see both !!!” she captioned the post.
Apparently she has a history of knife use.
Earlier this year, TMZ reported that toward the end of Spears’ conservatorship, those who took care of her recommended that she be kept away from knives. According to their sources, she viewed knives as a means of protection and had a fear of being institutionalized.

People close to her are concerned about her mental health.
Amid her impending divorce from Sam Asghari, those close to her are reportedly worried about her mental status.
“Some people are of the opinion that Britney’s on a dangerous downward spiral,” a source told Us Weekly last month. “And the stuff she’s been [doing] hasn’t done much to dampen that worry. The concern for Britney’s welfare right now is off the charts.”
