What to Know
It’s not every day that Donald Trump is called out for what people see as stupidity or poor choices. Just kidding, it happens plenty, since there is no shortage of people who are against the Trump Administration in general. In this case, though, it’s an incident where he chose not to close an umbrella before he boarded Air Force One, and there’s a clip of it on X (formerly Twitter) to prove it.
After the clip was shared, in which the user who posted it called Trump “lazy” and stupid,” there was a mixed reaction in the responses to the X post. Trump supporters used plenty of derogatory terms to call out the user, while others agreed with the assessment of Trump and with the incident as a whole. It was definitely one of those meme-worthy moments.

In the clip, Trump climbs the steps to reach the entrance to the plane. Instead of closing the umbrella, or really even attempting to, he tosses it aside to enter the plane. It might sound like nothing, but it’s a strange moment to see Trump have while tons of reporters clocking it and wondering what was going through his mind at the time.
“OH but can we talk about the 2nd guy who SHIMMIES TO THE SIDE instead of just closing it like a normal human being?” A user commented on the X post with a screenshot. “These are the people in charge of our country.”
Someone else shared another video of an umbrella incident with Trump and Air Force one and wrote, “Not the first time dementia monkey struggled with umbrella.”
Another person more seriously wrote, “Not lazy, something is really wrong with him. God help the world until the next US elections. Because GOP is like him, for the most part, something is wrong with them too so they won’t do anything to stop trump like removing him. so we are stuck.”
Others joked that Trump’s mind is just gone.
Unsurprisingly, other people focused on Trump’s cognitive abilities, or what they see as a lack thereof. They replied to the X post with speculation on what Trump is aware of, what he is and isn’t capable of, and why he might have chosen to discord that umbrella. Again, it sounds like such a small incident, but to some, it’s part of a bigger picture.
“Maybe he doesn’t know how to close an umbrella,” someone wrote. “Maybe the syphilis ate that part of his brain.”
Another person joked, “I would bet he has no clue how to close an umbrella.”
“Dementia Donny can’t do it,” a user added. “And these numb nuts are continuing to make excuses for someone with increased lack of knowing what’s appropriate or ‘right.’ He brought us to the brink of WWIII. The whole Republican party is cowardly. He needs to be removed.”
Someone pointed out that Joe Biden did it too.
Although there are people standing at the ready to make gifs and memes of Trump with clips from that umbrella video, there are others who were ready to point out that Joe Biden once allegedly had a similar incident happen with him. And yes, it was caught on camera. In the clip, Biden attempts to close the umbrella after entering the plane from the outside rain, but he leaves it outside too. Though according to some, it’s a different scenario.
“It was pouring,” someone pointed out in response to that X post. “Biden tried to close it without getting wet. There was barely a drizzle and the lazy rude f–k just threw it on the ground for someone else to pick up.”
Another person wrote, in response to someone calling Biden stupid, “Sure, but Biden never claimed to be the smartest guy in the world who knows a lot of things about everything. Even more than the generals.”
