Drake Bell Says He Found Out His Wife Filed for Divorce When He Saw the News on TMZ

Just days after being reported missing by police, Drake Bell's wife has filed for divorce. TMZ reported that Janet Von Schmeling filed paperwork on Thursday, which apparently came as a shock to Drake, who tweeted about learning of the split by reading about it online. Ouch! Here's everything we know about the end of Drake's marriage.

Drake shared the news with his fans on Twitter early Friday morning.

"I found out my wife filed for divorce from TMZ," he began the tweet, which also included a YouTube music video of the song "Going Away" that Drake released earlier this year.

It seems like the expletive-filled tune was a nod to the news, which included lines like "I'm done with this s—" and "I'm going away."

TMZ broke the news just hours before Drake shared the tweet.

Janet filed paperwork with the Los Angeles County Superior Court, citing "irreconcilable differences" as her reason for wanting the split.

TMZ reported she's requested primary legal and physical custody of their 1-year-old son Wyatt Bell, although she has stated that she's open to Drake having visitation rights.

Additionally, Janet will be seeking spousal support from the Drake and Josh alum.

The pair have been separated since September.

Janet filed paperwork just days after Drake's name was all over the news because his brother Robert reported him missing. According to the Orlando Police Department's 911 transcripts, which were obtained by Entertainment Tonight, Robert grew concerned about Drake after he made comments that were suicidal in nature.

Apparently Drake was so upset by potential custody concerns that he told his brother he didn't want to be alive anymore.

Drake was eventually found safe and even joked about how the whole thing was a misunderstanding.

In a since-deleted tweet, People magazine reported that Drake cracked jokes about the misunderstanding that made national headlines when police announced that Drake was considered "missing and endangered."

"You leave your phone in the car and don't answer for the night and this," he joked with a laughing/crying emoji.

Obviously, this is no laughing matter for Janet.

In 2021 Drake was charged and eventually pleaded guilty to child endangerment after a teenage girl accused the 36-year-old of inappropriate behavior and sexual assault.

Drake was sentenced to two years of probation and 200 hours of community service as part of his plea.

There's no word on how that case affected Janet's decision to leave her husband of four years or whether it will have any impact on the custody arrangement, but we have to imagine it's in the back of Drake's mind as he faces yet another public courtroom battle in the coming months.
