Dwyane Wade Splits Expenses 50/50 With Gabrielle Union Despite His $170 Million Net Worth

Dwyane Wade is coming under fire after discussing how he and wife Gabrielle Union handle their finances. After Gabrielle revealed that they split expenses 50/50, some people aren't impressed that Dwyane, who is worth an estimated $170 million, isn't picking up more of the tab.

It all started when Gabrielle opened up about their finances.

Speaking to Bloomberg Originals, Gabrielle revealed that she and Dwyane "split everything 50/50."

She said: "But in the other households that each of us have to support, there’s always this gorilla on your back that’s like, 'You better work! You’re going to sleep in? Somebody might not eat.' It’s hard. It’s hard to let that go, so I’m working on it."

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Gabrielle is worth about $40 million to Dwyane's $170 million net worth, so while both halves of this couple are wealthy, there is a significant difference in their individual bank accounts.

People weren't impressed by that arrangement.

Dwyane immediately received backlash for what Gabrielle said from people commenting on the video.

"What really set off red flags and alarms is for her to be at the level of financial success she’s at, married to a multimillionaire, but STILL having anxiety over finances/financial insecurities," one person commented on YouTube. "That blows my mind and makes me sad for her."

Dwyane set the record straight.

While appearing on the Club Shay Shay podcast this week, Dwyane explained that the way they split their income came about after they had an argument where he told Gabrielle that they were standing in "my house that I paid for" in Miami.

"My wife looked at me and said, 'You will never say that to me again when it’s something that we share,'" he said. "So when we moved to [Los Angeles] my wife said, 'I got half on it. You will never say my house again — you can say that in the arena!'"

They don't exactly split everything 50/50.

Mostly, they focus that even split on their house and expenses related to their daughter, Kaavia, 5.

"There are some things I pick up versus some things she picks up but she does some, I do some," he explained. "If we take a yacht trip, we can do it 50/50 or I can do it myself. My wife is a working woman. She’s a boss and an independent woman in her own life."

They did both sign a prenup before getting married.

And they both seem to be happy about it.

"I do alright for myself. But in certain moments that we want to do better together, we do better together," he said.

If it works for them, that's all that matters!
