The facility where Josh Duggar is serving out his federal prison sentence is making headlines for its alleged mistreatment of those in residence there. According to The Sun, inmates have filed formal complaints and even lawsuits against FCI Seagoville, claiming that they've been neglected and even endangered during their time at the prison.
Multiple inmates have spoken out about the treatment they've allegedly experienced there.
One inmate claimed that in July 2022 he "was assaulted with a lock by an inmate who was paid by other inmates to do the assaulting" and after the attack, he was placed in the Special Housing Unit for his own safety, according to The Sun. But then, he was released back into the general population housing in September, even though he was "in fear of his life."
Later that year, a judge dismissed the inmate's case.
After the inmate requested financial compensation for "all the suffering that occurred by the gross negligence of the staff at this institution," a judge dismissed the case because the inmate hadn't filled out a questionnaire despite being given "ample time" to do it. The inmate, however, has since been moved to Forrest City Low FCI in Arkansas.
Another inmate filed a lawsuit in October 2022.
He is accusing the facility of "failure to provide [his] prescribed medication for 31 days while he was confined in the special housing unit at the total mercy of BOP staff."
The inmate, who is still serving time at Seagoville, is requesting $760,000 in compensation for his hardship, and the lawsuit is ongoing.
This news comes after the prison came under fire for its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
As The Sun pointed out, news outlets such as CNN have reported that more than 70% of the prison's population had been infected with COVID in 2020, with at least three prisoners dying of the virus by August of that year.
It sounds like Seagovlle is no stranger to controversy.
There's no word on whether Josh has lodged any complaints.
Though he's already been there for nearly a year after being convicted on child pornography charges, he still has a long time to go. Josh will have served just about 10 years there by the time he is released, unless he transfers to another prison at some point.
It sounds like the situation at Seagoville is bleak, though … and now, maybe things will change.
