Garth Brooks Makes Name of Accuser Public & Claims He’s Being ‘Extorted’

One week after an anonymous woman going by the name Jane Roe accused Garth Brooks of sexual assault, he is fighting back. In a new lawsuit filed by the country star and his legal team, not only did he publicly name his accuser for the first time, but he also claimed that he is a victim of “extortion.” And now, she’s asking the court for a trial in front of a jury.

The suit against Brooks was filed last week.

In it, a woman who chose to go by Jane Roe claimed that she worked as a makeup artist and hairstylist for Brooks and his wife, Trisha Yearwood, for years. Roe alleged that Brooks subjected her to multiple instances of sexual assault and brought up a fantasy about her joining him and Yearwood for a threesome on more than one occasion.

Brooks filed a suit of his own in response to Jane Roe on October 8.

According to court documents obtained by People, Brooks noted that he named the woman in the documents because Roe’s attorneys named him in her suit and that he wanted to “defend himself against extortion.” He also claimed he wanted to protect himself from her attempt at “defamation, false light invasion of privacy, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.”

He accused her of plotting 'a malicious scheme to blackmail' him.

Brooks claimed he turned down the makeup artist when she made a “request for salaried employment and medical benefits” when she had previously been employed as an “independent contractor” with him for 15 years, per People. After that request was denied, he said she “responded with false and outrageous allegations of sexual misconduct she claims occurred years ago.”

Now, Brooks is seeking a jury trial to clear his name.

He also asked the court to order Jane Roe to make a declaration that the allegations she’s made “against him of sexual misconduct are untrue.”

Financially, Brooke is asking for attorney’s fees along with compensatory and punitive damages.

Jane Roe's attorneys has already released a statement in response.

“Garth Brooks just revealed his true self,” Roe’s attorneys shared in a statement issued to People. “With no legal justification, Brooks outed her because he thinks the laws don’t apply to him. On behalf of our client, we will be moving for maximum sanctions against him immediately.”
