The Beverly Hills Police Department released a statement about the incident but did not name Jamie Foxx.

In a news release shared on Facebook, the Beverly Hills Police Department reported that there was a “physical altercation between parties” at Mr. Chow restaurant in Beverly Hills, California. Initially, police responded to a report of “possible assault with a deadly weapon” at the restaurant on December 13. However, they later discovered this claim was “unfounded.”

“The BHPD conducted a preliminary investigation and completed a report documenting the battery,” the news release noted. “No arrests were made.”

A spokesperson for Jamie Foxx confirmed that the actor was injured as a result of the altercation.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Jamie was celebrating his birthday with his family at Mr. Chow when a glass hit him in the mouth. A spokesperson for the actor said, “someone from another table threw a glass that hit him in the mouth.” The spokesperson also added that “the police were called, and the matter is now in law enforcement’s hands.”

Jamie posted on Instagram on December 15.

Two days after the incident, Jamie thanked fans for their prayers and support, though he did not refer to the incident at the restaurant directly. “The devil is busy … but I’m too blessed to be stressed,” the image he shared read. In the caption, he wrote, “thank you to everybody that pray and check on me … when your light is shining bright … they try to bring you darkness … but they don’t know that you’re built for it … the lights have been shining bright …”

He also thanked people for watching his recent Netflix special, What Had Happened Was.

“Huge thank yous to everyone that have watched and been inspired by What Had Happened Was … number 1 on @netflix,” the comedian continued. “If you haven’t checked it out please go check it out it’s from my heart and my soul …”

His Netflix special premiered on December 10.

In the Netflix special, Jamie addressed his 2023 health scare. When he was hospitalized in April 2023, his family didn’t share details about his condition with the public. In a video shared on Instagram in July 2023, Jamie revealed that he “went through something that I thought I would never, ever go through.” However, his family didn’t share details with the world because Jamie “just didn’t want you to see [him] like that.”

He revealed that he suffered a brain bleed that led to a stroke.

During his Netflix special, Jamie spoke up about what happened to him for the first time. When Jamie arrived at the hospital, a doctor informed his family that he would need surgery right away. “He is having a stroke,” they told Jamie’s sister, Deidra Dixon, at the time. “He may be able to make a full recovery but it’s going to be the worst year of his life.”

When he woke up 20 days later, he was surprised to find himself in a wheelchair. “I couldn’t walk. In a wheelchair. And I was like, ‘What the f—, why am I in a wheelchair?'” Jamie said.
