What to Know
There are some things that are said by the Trump Administration that are surprising. Other comments or claims are so out of left field at this point that you just have to brush them off. But when JD Vance said during an Air Force Academy speech on X that he cannot be booed because he is the vice president, it was still a moment of “huh” all around.
Whether or not Vance was joking with his comment, it almost makes you want to be even more vigilant about booing the vice president. For those who are opposed to Donald Trump and those around him, including Vance, the idea of letting out some boos every chance they get is too good to pass up, especially now.
JD Vance can absolutely be booed at literally any given time.

Vance has been booed before, and he will be again. But, according to him in the video on X, people can’t boo him because of his place in the White House. Luckily, the First Amendment is still (mostly) a thing, so everyone has the right to boo whomever they want. Yes, even the sitting vice president.
“So I’ve watched a few highlights of graduation speeches where this or that corporate leader will discuss artificial intelligence, AI, and be met with literal boos,” Vance says in the video. “Now, you can’t boo me. I’m the vice president of the United States.”
That’s where the clip ends and clearly, Vance is trying to be cheeky and elicit a laugh from the audience. And maybe he did. But the idea of him saying that just irked so many of Trump and Vance’s critics.
“Hey. You got handed a title. You don’t deserve the office, you’ve earned the boos,” a user on X wrote. “When Fatso goes belly up, you aren’t going to like the treatment you get then, either.”
Another person commented, “I’m 150% Trump picked him as assassination insurance. Nobody likes this tool.”
And, a commenter added, “No we definitely can boo … and we will boo. Sooo much booing. Levels of booing you have yet to experience or even imagine. Effing loser.”
Many people quickly pointed out that he’s a public servant.

Other users on X commented at different times to point out that Vance is, as the vice president and an elected official in office, a “public servant.” So this is kind of a situation where you work for us, pal. Or, you know, something like that.
“You’re a public servant JD, not a prince,” someone wrote on X.
Another person commented, “Vance is so insecure. I’m guessing when he was in highschool, he probably received several toilet swirlies because he was such a dweeb.”
Someone also shared a screenshot from an event where Vance was booed just for attending in the audience. In the screenshot, Vance’s face is frozen in a scowl or, some might say, a bit of a pout. So yes, people can and have booed at Vance.
College grads aren’t happy with AI…or JD Vance.
The reason college students are booing AI at their graduation ceremonies is because of the looming threat of AI. According to NBC News, some college graduates also worry about what AI will mean for everyone’s futures when it comes to their own cognitive abilities and daily lives. So for commencement speakers to speak on AI and celebrate it at a time when everything is a bit uncertain just doesn’t feel right.
Mary Baldwin University graduate Zoe Kaufman of Virginia told the outlet, “I just feel this general sense among all of us of AI kind of being forced on us. Nowadays, the school is encouraging us to download different AIs and use them, and it just feels like it’s kind of coming for everyone’s jobs, just at different paces.”
