As far as celebrity real estate goes, this house might be one of the most unusual we've seen in a long time. Recently, Kat Von D put her spooky Los Angeles mansion up for sale, and now that we have the chance to peek inside, we don't know if we're scared or impressed. The Victorian-style house is beautiful (there's no debating that), but Kat has certainly put her personal touch on every aspect of it, transforming it from the mansion that was once used in the movie Cheaper by the Dozen to a full-on haunted palace.
Priced at an eye-watering $15 million, the home boasts 11 bedrooms and more than 12,000 square feet of space. It was originally built in the 1890s and comes with a lot of really cool features, including a hidden bar with a secret door. And don't even get us started on the blood red pool in the backyard (yes, you read that right).
Interested to see what the famed tattoo artist has going on behind closed doors? Take a full tour of Kat Von D's mansion — including every last creepy detail.
The Home's Exterior
The exterior of the mansion certainly looked different in Cheaper by the Dozen — it was white back then, after all. But from the outside, we're already getting haunted house vibes, especially with the maze-like hedges and the black lighting features.
A Blood Red Pool
Ever dream of swimming in a pool of blood? Here's your big chance! Of course, the pool isn't actually made of blood, but it looks like a vampire would be totally at home in Kat's backyard. If nothing else, it's definitely true to the tattoo artist's aesthetic.
The Formal Sitting Room
This big, open space is perfect for entertaining, and judging by all that seating, it seems like that might be exactly what Kat used it for. The red theme clearly continues inside the house, with velvet couches and armchairs accented by gold sconces and multiple chandeliers scattered on the ceiling.
A Royal Bedroom
Though this bedroom is decidedly less spooky than the rest of the house, it fits right in with the Victorian architecture. This bed looks like it's made for a queen with that platform and canopy — but the candelabra-style lamp on the nightstand reminds us exactly who was behind the decorating of this home.
An Ornate Bathroom
Wait, is this a bathroom or a work of art? The all-black space (with a black toilet and matching bidet, of course) comes equipped with plenty of mirrors and gold detailing. That tub looks perfect to kick back and relax in, though we really hope the water runs clear and not red.
A Creepy Kitchen
Calling all spooky chefs! This is the perfect kitchen to cook up a creepy meal. The copper detailing and woodwork are both gorgeous, and it looks like there's plenty of room to whip up just about any recipe — as long as you don't get distracted by ghosts who almost definitely live here.
The Dining Room
Why does it not surprise us at all that Kat's dining room table and chairs are black with red accents? It surely matches the rest of the house, and those windows and that woodwork are so detailed and impressive, spooky vibes or not. Even if the next owner goes for something a bit brighter, these elements will still stand out.
The Library
Of course a house like this would have a library — and it's way more impressive than whatever work-from-home situation the rest of us have going on. With multiple busts and dark décor pieces scattered around the room, we're not sure how much work we could get done. There's just so much to look at!
The Main Entrance
The second guests set foot in this house, they're going to know that it's special, especially once they clock those carvings on the fireplace! It's hard to decide what to focus on first, from the grand staircase to the artwork to the furniture.
A Brighter Sitting Room
If you're feeling like most of this house is too dark for you, this might be your favorite space. This additional sitting room is much brighter (including some natural light) and looks totally fit for a palace. Look at that incredible mural on the ceiling.
Bat-Themed Bedroom
Is it possible to have sweet dreams in a bedroom like this? The bat mural is pretty cool, though — at least, for those who are into that kind of thing, which Kat certainly seems to be. We have to give her props for choosing such ornate lighting. (And once again, the fireplace mantel is amazing.)
