The Best Moments From Prince William & Kate Middleton’s Nostalgic Scotland Tour

While Prince William and Kate Middleton's schedules are probably always booked up, the past week has been a very busy one for them both. Now that they're no longer working from home and can travel again, the Cambridges whisked off to Scotland for a quick weeklong tour, with William leaving ahead of Kate, who joined him later. As royal fans, this means that we've gotten to gush over the photos and videos that have surfaced from their trip (and all of the pretty outfits Kate has worn along the way, of course).

From visiting the University of St. Andrews — where this royal couple met and fell in love — to racing each other on the beach while land yachting, playing tennis with school children, and everything in between, it's been an action-packed week for the duke and duchess, but according to all those smiles on their faces, it looks like they wouldn't have had it any other way.

Here are all the best (and most adorable) moments from William and Kate's tour of Scotland. These photos and videos are making us want to visit that beautiful country ASAP!

William, All By Himself

William started the trip without Kate. During this part of the tour, he was made the lord high commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, representing the Queen in this part of the Commonwealth. It was a pretty big deal (and yes, there was plenty of tartan to go around).

Grabbing a Pint

William also took the opportunity to grab a beer at an outdoor bar with some first responders and talk to them about how they are handling the global health situation. It looks like they had a pretty animated conversation as they watched the Scottish Cup final. Who says royal tours have to be all business?

A Little Adrenaline

Given William's commitment to stopping climate change, it was a no-brainer that he'd want to see an electric race car — and he even got to suit up and take one for a test drive. The experience had to be bucket list-level awesome for him. If only Prince George could have been there for this!

Making New Friends

In the early part of his Scotland visit, William also stopped by a care facility to speak with residents, and it resulted in some seriously adorable footage, from seeing him chow down on ice cream to flirting with an adorable older lady he met while he was there. Watch out, Kate!

Kate's Arrival

A couple of days into the tour, Kate finally arrived in Scotland to join William, and they didn't waste any time getting to work. They visited a Sikh community as they prepared meals for those in need, and of course they even put on aprons and pitched in with the workers.

A New Hospital

William and Kate attended the opening of Balfour Hospital on the island of Orkney, speaking with National Health Service workers and even meeting a few dignitaries along the way. They spent most of their day in Orkney, and judging by the photos, they had a lot of fun.

Stopping for Tea

One of the coolest parts of the tour was when William and Kate popped by a private home in Orkney to meet a family, have some tea, and discuss how their lives have been changed over the past year. In the photos, the couple looks totally relaxed and happy, getting to spend a little time socializing.

In Her Element

When William and Kate visited the European Marine Energy Centre, Kate got to do one of the things she does best: talk to kids! The photos that resulted from her conversation with these schoolchildren are too cute, and there's no doubt that Charlotte, George, and Louis have well-prepared her for moments like these.

Racing on the Beach

William and Kate also visited St. Andrews, the college town where they met and fell in love, and one of their stops there looked pretty fun. They raced land yachts on the beach, something they said wasn't available when they went to school, and they were all smiles the whole time (even when Kate almost wiped out on her vehicle).

Where It All Began

Of course, no visit to St. Andrews would be complete without a stop at the university where William and Kate met as freshmen. They painted hearts on campus together, spoke with students, watched a dance class, and planted a tree in the quad. It was a pretty productive day — and a nice walk down memory lane.

A Night at the Drive-In

William and Kate helped put on a night at the drive-in for NHS workers, and they showed up in one of Prince Philip's vintage Land Rovers, making the night all the more special. They shared an early screening of Disney's live-action film Cruella, and it looked like everyone had a blast.

All Smiles in Edinburgh

William and Kate looked so happy when they arrived in Edinburgh to check out Starbank Park. Something these two do best definitely has to be meeting people and connecting with them everywhere they go. William seems to have inherited this trait from his late mother, Princess Diana.

A Little Tennis

By Thursday, William and Kate were getting sporty. They visited a youth tennis program, meeting with the kids who participate, and it's no surprise that William ended up picking up a racket. The Cambridges have always been pretty athletic people — and they never hold back when they're on tour.

On the Court

William and Kate showed their competitive sides when they picked teams and played each other, along with the kids. In the end, William reigned supreme.

"Thanks to the @LTA's youth program, tennis around the UK is being made accessible to as many children as possible," the Cambridges wrote on Instagram. "Through its inclusivity approach, children are able to enjoy the benefits of playing and staying in tennis, whatever their age, gender, ability, disability, or background."

A Formal Occasion

Rounding out their trip, William and Kate attended closing ceremonies at the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland — something that was supposed to take place in 2020 but got canceled (for obvious reasons). Kate looked amazing here, once again proving that blue is definitely her color!
