Thursday brought the unexpected and tragic news that Lisa Marie Presley had died at 54 years old after going into cardiac arrest less than 48 hours after appearing at the Golden Globes with mom Priscilla Presley. Now that Elvis Presley's only daughter is gone, what will happen to Graceland, the legendary musician's iconic former home?
News of Lisa Marie's death broke on Thursday night.
On Thursday morning, Lisa Marie was rushed to the hospital after going into a cardiac arrest, and by the evening, mother Priscilla confirmed the news of her death in a statement to People.
"It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us," Priscilla said. "She was the most passionate, strong and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers. At this time there will be no further comment."
Lisa Marie was a mother to three living children.
She is mom to 33-year-old actress Riley Keough and 14-year-old twin daughters Harper and Finley. Lisa Marie's son, Benjamin Keough, died by suicide in July 2020.
Now, it seems that Riley, Harper, and Finley stand to inherit what their mother left behind.
It's likely that her daughters will split Graceland.
As the Daily Mail reported, Lisa Marie still owned Graceland at the time of her death, which serves as a museum dedicated to Elvis' life and career located in Memphis, with a hotel and RV park on the grounds.
That ownership may transfer to Riley, Harper, and Finley, though the twins are obviously still minors.
Lisa's children will not inherit Elvis' fortune, though.
In 1993, the year she turned 25, Lisa Marie inherited her father's $100 million fortune, but that money is gone. After a series of bad business deals that resulted in a lawsuit against manager Barry Siegel, it had all disappeared by 2015, According to Forbes.
At the time of her death, Lisa Marie was believed to be $16 million in debt.
Her children likely aren't thinking about an inheritance right now.
We can't imagine how her family must be feeling after such a sudden loss, especially considering how recently they lost Benjamin — and the fact that the twins are still so young.
We'll be thinking of Priscilla, Riley, Harper, and Finley as they mourn someone who was so important in their lives.
