What to Know
When Meghan Markle officially announced the launch of her product brand, As Ever, in February 2025, people had some things to say. The brand may or may not have found its customer with its signature tea and baking mixes, but it sure keeps trying. With the announcement of two new candles dropping just in time for Mother’s Day, there seems to be some people who are a little confused by the latest launch. Meghan announced that her brand is debuting two new candles inspired by her two kids, Archie and Lilibet. These candles feature her kids’ royal titles and are even suppose to give a hint to Archie’s red hair. Is this something a mother who is adamant about keeping her kids out of the public eye should be doing? Let’s discuss!
Meghan Markle announces two new candles from her brand inspired by her two children.
If any other mom in the public eye decided to do this, we can venture to say that most people would think the gesture is the sweetest thing they’ve ever heard of. But when Meghan Markle does something like this, the world almost immediately sneers.
When Meghan’s As Ever brand announced on Instagram that they’re getting ready to launch some gifts that are meant to be “shared” just in time for Mother’s Day, the world took notice. Soon after, People shared some of the details.
The Duchess of Sussex announced the launch of her Mother’s Day collection that’s supposed to hit the As Ever website on April 22. The collection features two $64 signature candles that are inspired by her two kids, Archie and Lilibet. One candle, Signature Candle No. 506 is described as a “warm, comforting scent inspired by Prince Archie of Sussex’s birthdate,” which is May 6. With hints of ginger, neroli, and cashmere, there’s also supposed to be a “subtle wink” to Archie’s red hair.
The second candle is Signature Candle No. 604, which is said to be inspired by Lilibet’s June 4 birthday and is listed as “Princess Lilibet of Sussex’s birthdate.” This candle is described to be more of a “light, floral scent” with a “sense of brightness.” The news release stated that “this candle is inspired by Meghan’s daughter, Princess Lilibet.”
If this all doesn’t sound like a bit much for you and you’re on the hunt for something for your mother, there’s also three bundles to choose from, including a $156 set that comes with delicious chocolate in custom matchboxes. Very luxe!
It seems that some people in the comment section are not dying to get their hands on these candles.
As usual, the comment section on the internet is not the friendliest of places, especially if you’re Meghan Markle.
In the comment section of the candle announcement shared by People on X, there seems to be lots of folks who are not too enthused about the very idea that Meghan is involving her kids in this product launch, especially considering how much she works to keep their interior lives private.
One person is trying to figure out why Meghan is using her kids’ royal titles to help sell candles when she technically stepped down from that life in 2020. “More provocation and gaslighting of the Royal Family in hustling those kids and merching those titles, but somehow Meghan can’t figure out why she’s the most trolled person on the internet,” they wrote.
Another individual in the X comments does not condone what they read as hypocrisy and inconsistency. “Meg & Haz campaign against the ‘toxicity’ of social media… while rolling out products inspired by their ‘children’ on the very platforms they warn everyone about. Consistency remains elusive. Meg Markle tying a commercial launch to Archie and Lily after all the speeches about privacy and protection doesn’t exactly scream ‘shielding them from harm,'” they wrote.
Not for nothing, but they kind of have a point there. You can actually connect those dots!
Some people in the Reddit comments venture to say that Meghan’s kids are now being “forced” into the spotlight with this product launch.
Of course, there are Reddit threads erupting with heated comments about Meghan’s candle launch.
One person on Reddit couldn’t help but bring up the idea of privacy that Meghan and Prince Harry have continually fought for, especially when it comes to their children. “So much for privacy. How sad to grow up with parents who claim to be the most bullied people in the world, yet repeatedly force their kids into the global spotlight just for publicity and merch, then have the cheek to lecture the public about parenting. I can’t imagine the psychological impact of growing up and being constantly told your face must always be hidden for your safety from the public, but your parents sell candles “inspired” by you,” they wrote.
Another individual in the Reddit thread wondered if anyone will actually buy these candles since Archie and Lilibet are kept out of the public eye. “Why would anyone care about candles based on her birthday, wedding date or her kids birthdays? She’s completely delusional and unhinged. No one cares about kids they have never seen,” they shared. Well, that’s not a very nice take, is it?
Another Redditor called this product launch “corny” and wondered “who would spend luxury prices for an item that does not scream luxury or aspirational?” At $64 per signature candle, it is a pricey gift, even for Mother’s Day.
Whether you find this product launch a bit too much or you don’t quite connect to the idea of Meghan tying these signature candles to her two kids, we are curious to see if these $64 luxury candles fly off the shelves!
