We all have that one friend. She's the friend who has a homeopathic doctor, a chiropractor, and a Reiki master on speed dial. She's never seen without a giant crystal around her neck and a bottle of celery juice in her purse. For every medical issue from sniffles to a shark bite, she's got an essential oil to treat it. She'd never dream of marrying someone whose birth chart isn't favorable or whose chakras aren't aligned. Yep, she is the woo-woo friend!
We may all have a woo-woo friend who has never met a wellness trend that she didn't want to try, but she probably has nothing on the celebrities who rank the highest in our woo-woo roundup. Now, we have to acknowledge that deciding which celebs are the most woo woo is a totally subjective process.
It's one part vibe and one part public affinity for wellness trends that aren't super supported by science, and it sure helps to be into astrology or crystals or (for at least one celeb on this list) to have a willingness to put jade eggs where the sun doesn't shine! Celebs who lean into this stuff hard enough that they've even figured out how to monetize their woo-woo ways get double bonus woo points.
Spencer Pratt
Former reality TV villain Spencer Pratt is majorly into crystals. Not only is his house said to be filled with them, but he also operates a crystal business called Pratt Daddy Crystals, selling everything from bracelets to pendants that cost well over $1,000. Hey — nobody ever said being woo woo was cheap!
Alicia Silverstone
Alicia Silverstone is famous for her iconic role in Clueless (as if!), but she's also well-known for being one of the biggest advocates in Hollywood for a lot of things that tend to be associated with the whole woo-woo culture. She's a vegan, she was super into attachment parenting (including raising eyebrows when she revealed that she pre-chewed her infant son's food for him), and she recently revealed that she still co-sleeps with 11-year-old Bear.
Shailene Woodley
Shailene Woodley has talked openly to Into the Gloss about doing oil pulling to clean her teeth, eating clay as a way to help "clean heavy metals out of your body," and even the benefits of sunshine to heal vaginal issues. But when chatting to Vulture about how she figures out the astrological charts for every character she plays, she happily put the woo-woo label on herself, declaring, "I love it so much. It's such a woo-woo thing."
Gwyneth Paltrow
Gwyneth Paltrow may have gotten her start as an actress, but she really became a mogul with her wellness company. Goop sells all kinds of products that fall into the woo-woo category, but none that has attracted more attention than the $66 jade egg, which claims to "harness the power of energy work, crystal healing, and a Kegel-like physical practice."
Even after Goop faced a lawsuit about the safety of the eggs, Gwyneth fired back in the New York Times saying, "That egg is not dangerous."
Kendall Jenner
Kendall Jenner is a big fan of doing sound baths, which are supposed to promote deep relaxation and achieving a meditative state. In a June 2022 Instagram post, she shared a video of herself engaging in the practice, writing, "Sometimes I find it hard to wind down. Things that help me be more present and quiet my mind [include] workouts/nature walks, being with my animal children, meditation/my sound bowls, journaling, and organizing."
Kourtney Kardashian
Kendall isn't the only sister in the Kardashian-Jenner family who ranks on the woo-woo scale. During the most recent season of The Kardashians, viewers got to see Kourtney and husband Travis Barker undergo a whole slew of woo-woo spa treatments to try to help Kourtney get pregnant. In addition to vaginal steaming, chakra balancing, and eating a restrictive organic diet, she and Travis also abstained from sex, caffeine, and sugar.
Shirley MacLaine
Shirley MacLaine is 88 years old and may be the original woo-woo queen of Hollywood. She famously believes in everything from the existence of UFOs and reincarnation to the idea that the lost city of Atlantis was real. In 2019 she told People that she doesn't care if people don't get her beliefs.
"Sometimes I've been mocked, especially my discussions about UFOs and reincarnation," she said. "But, okay, let's discuss it. The more we discuss it, the less grounds for humiliation it serves. That's never bothered me much anyway."
Kyrie Irving
Kyrie Irving is one of the biggest stars in the NBA. But he's also gotten lots of attention both for being a vegan athlete and for some of the more kooky things he believes in, especially his skepticism that the Earth is actually round and some conspiracy theories about vaccinations.
Dr. Oz
Before he pivoted to politics, Dr. Mehmet Oz was an Oprah protegé turned TV host. He used his platform to promote some, well, interesting and woo-woo practices, including faith healing, diets to detox and cleanse, and using vitamins and minerals to fight COVID-19 instead of getting vaccinated.
Madonna
Madonna, who's well-known for her interest in the mystical Jewish tradition of Kabbalah, is also apparently very serious about astrology. According to a story from DJ David Guetta, Madonna declined to work with him after finding out that he was a Scorpio. As he shared in an interview on a French YouTube channel, he had lunch with the singer and it was all going well until she asked his sign.
"We have lunch. It's happening, very good. And you wonder when we start working together," he recounted, explaining that after he revealed his Scorpio status, Madonna said to him, "I'm sorry. We're not going to be able to work together. It was a pleasure to know you. Goodbye!"
Madelaine Petsch
Riverdale star Madelaine Petsch (we love her for her amazing head of red hair) is into meditation and has even shared a video on YouTube of herself working with an energy healer and a medium. She also believes in the power of crystals and will carry a specific one with her when she's having a stressful day.
"I'll bring my rose quartz on set with me and just kind of have it in my robe," she told Pop Sugar. "It's kind of like an energy thing."
Minnie Driver
Actress Minnie Driver likes to bring the woo woo in her bedroom to make it a totally tranquil sanctuary. "I burn palo santo — you know, the sacred wood — I light candles, I have crystals by my bed," she told Us Weekly in 2018, explaining that she wants a "completely serene" vibe for her sleeping space. Who doesn't want that?
Rosanna Arquette
Actress Rosanna Arquette is a big fan of the woo-woo products from Goop. She told Us Weekly that in addition to having a crystal-infused water bottle, she also uses an essential oil product called Psychic Vampire Repellant "since it wards off bad energy."
Aaron Rodgers
Aaron Rodgers, NFL quarterback (and ex-partner of fellow woo-woo award winner Shailene Woodley), has been on a real woo-woo kick lately. Not only did he recently debut a massive astrology-inspired tattoo, but he also shared on the Aubrey Marcus podcast that he's into taking the psychedelic drink ayahuasca, as well as ingesting mushrooms, to try to increase his sense of "unconditional self-love."
Alanis Morissette
Canadian singer Alanis Morissette is an attachment parenting, unschooling, mostly vegan mama who once described herself to Us Weekly as a "hippie-eco girl" who always carries organic matcha tea, essential oils, and a bag of arugula to snack on. We clearly have different ideas of what counts as a "snack!"
