All the New Original Content Coming to Disney+ in 2022

Disney+ is set to step things up in a major way in 2022. The streamer, which launched in November 2019, will bring a ton of a brand-new titles to its content library this year, including a slew of Marvel shows, remakes of timeless classics, and even sequels to beloved films from the 1990s and early 2000s. There will be new movies and shows for everyone in the family, from mom and dad to young toddlers, and we can't wait to check them all out in the coming months.

Subscribers can even expect to see some big Hollywood names appearing in Disney+ original movies and shows in 2022, including Amy Adams, Ewan McGregor, Oscar Isaac, Ethan Hawke, and Sarah Jessica Parker. Plus, a number of highly anticipated new releases will land on the streaming service later this year, and with movie theaters still struggling to fill seats, it's likely that even more movies than we're sharing here will make their debut.

'The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild'

Featuring the voices of Utkarsh Ambudkar of Free Guy and English actor Simon Pegg, The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild is a new animated film about two possums who find themselves stranded in the ice age and team up with a weasel named Buck Wild to save the "Lost World" from dangerous dinosaurs. It's set to premiere on January 28.

'The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder'

Audiences have been waiting for this one for a while now. The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder is a reboot of the early oughties Disney Channel series starring Kyla Pratt. It's being described by Disney+ as a "continuation of the acclaimed series" which will see Kyla reprise her role as Penny Proud and feature voice appearances by a who's-who of stars including Keke Palmer, Gabrielle Union, Tommy Davidson, Soleil Moon Frye, Tiffany Haddish, Eva Longoria, Jaden Smith, and more. The show is expected to debut some time in February.

'Turning Red'

It was announced in early January 2022 that the new Pixar film Turning Red, which originally had a theater release slated, will instead go straight to Disney+ on March 11. The film is the story of a 13-year-old girl who one day wakes up in the body of a red panda, and soon realizes that whenever she gets overly excited her body morphs into the furry creature.

'Cheaper by the Dozen'

Gabrielle Union and Zach Braff are set to star in a modern remake of the classic family film Cheaper by the Dozen, based on the 1948 novel of the same name. Originally adapted for film in 1950 and then again in 2003 with stars Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt at the helm, it's about a blended family with 12 kids who get into all sorts of silly antics as they try to balance life and bustling careers. As of right now, it's expected on the streamer in March.

'Better Nate Than Ever'

A family comedy based on the book series by Tim Federle, Better Nate Than Ever is about a 13-year-old boy with big Broadway dreams who is struggling to get a foothold in showbiz in his hometown. He and his best friend end up secretly planning a trip to New York City to audition for "Lilo and Stitch: The Musical," and despite facing quite a few obstacles, Nate is convinced it'll be his big shot. The movie is expected to land on Disney+ in the spring.

'Chip 'N Dale: Rescue Rangers'

Disney+ is bringing all the nostalgia in 2022. Everything '90s is still totally on trend, and we're here for it, especially since it means we're getting a hybrid live-action/CGI Chip 'n Dale movie starring John Mulaney and Andy Samberg as the beloved chipmunk detectives. This one — releasing some time in the spring — is sure to be hilarious and entertaining for the whole family.

'Sneakerella'

Sneakerella is a new Disney+ original live-action film based on the thriving sneakerhead culture in New York City. It's basically a gender-swapped Cinderella story in which a boy who has ambitions of becoming a big-time sneaker designer ends up falling in love with the daughter of a former professional basketball player and sneaker tycoon. The premiere date is slated for May 13.

'Baymax'

Yup, that's right: A Baymax series is coming to Disney+. Based on the lovable character from the Big Hero franchise, this original show is expected some time in the summer. It will follow the same story line as the film Big Hero 6, with the characters embarking on all sorts of interesting adventures.

'Ms. Marvel'

Ms. Marvel will be one of the first new Marvel series to premiere on Disney+ as part of the MCU's Phase 4. Starring newcomer Iman Vellani, it will tell the story of a young Kamala Khan as she discovers her powers and transforms into Ms. Marvel. The series will feature six episodes and is expected some time in the summer.

'Hocus Pocus 2'

After years of rumors about a sequel or possible reboot, it's actually happening. Hocus Pocus 2 is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in the fall. All of the original actresses who played the Sanderson sisters in the original 1993 film will return for the sequel, in which three girls accidentally resurrect the child-eating witches in modern-day Salem.

'Pinocchio'

The upcoming live-action remake of the classic kids' film Pinocchio may end up being one of the biggest releases on Disney+ in 2022. It's a dark take on the tale of the boy whose nose grows every time he lies. Directed by horror master Guillermo del Toro and starring Cate Blanchett, Ron Perlman, Ewan McGregor, and Finn Wolfhard, the film will likely come out in late summer or early fall.

'Disenchanted'

We are so excited about this one! Both Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey will reprise their roles in Disenchanted, a long-awaited sequel to the 2007 film Enchanted. Years after Giselle gets the happy ending she longed for, discontent starts to creep in, and she inadvertently ends up causing big problems in the real world and the fairy-tale world. It should come out some time in the fall.

'Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules'

In this sequel based on the bestselling Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series by Jeff Kinney, Greg is ruthlessly bullied by his own brother, Rodrick, at the start of a new school year. Greg wants to find a way to get along, but there's a secret that could threaten any chance of a truce between him and Rodrick. An exact release date has not been announced.

'Limitless'

A new National Geographic original series starring Thor's Chris Hemsworth, Limitless follows the buff actor as he helps uncover scientific secrets that may combat aging and help individuals understand how to achieve their healthiest, most powerful physical condition by repairing damage, improving strength and memory, and becoming more resilient. A release date has not yet been announced.

'America the Beautiful'

Another intriguing National Geographic docuseries, America the Beautiful explores the many ways the iconic landscapes of the US have changed and are continuing to change even now. From the producers of Planet Earth and Frozen Planet, it's sure to be an enlightening and visually stimulating watch. A release date has not yet been announced.

'The Spiderwick Chronicles'

Disney+ is turning The Spiderwick Chronicles into a series. Based on the hugely popular books by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black, the show will presumably follow the Grace family as they make unusual, supernatural discoveries after inheriting the home of a great-great-uncle. A release date has not yet been announced.

'Willow'

Disney+ will be releasing a new series based on the 1988 fantasy film Willow, which was directed by Ron Howard. The series will pick up the story decades later in time. Warwick Davis will return as the magic-wielding dwarf, Willow Ufgood, but this time, John Chu — who directed In the Heights and Crazy Rich Asians — will serve as director. A release date has not yet been announced.

'Cars on the Road'

Pixar has developed a new series based on the Cars franchise called Cars on the Road, which is set to premiere some time in 2022. Owen Wilson and Larry the Cable Guy will return to voice the characters of Lightning McQueen and Mater as they embark on an epic road trip that sees them meeting new friends and visiting with old friends.

'Zootopia+'

Zootopia+ is a new short-form series that will feature the 2016 film's famous animal characters, including Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps. It will be set in the same fictional metropolis that the full-length movie takes place in. A release date for the series has not yet been announced.

'Moon Knight'

Another new Marvel series, Moon Knight will be based on the comic book character of the same name and star big Hollywood stars Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke. It's about a former marine suffering from a mental health issue who ends up with the powers of an Egyptian moon god — only, the powers may end up complicating his life even more. An exact release date has not yet been announced.

'She-Hulk'

Most of us are familiar with the Marvel character She-Hulk, who will return to TV some time in 2022, this time with her own series on Disney+. The upcoming show will feature 10 episodes and star Tatiana Maslany, Mark Ruffalo, Tim Roth, and Jameela Jamil. An exact release date has not yet been announced.

'I Am Groot'

Yet another Marvel creation, I Am Groot is an animated series composed of several short films featuring the quirky Guardians of the Galaxy character, as well as several other characters, both new and old. Disney+ and Marvel have yet to announce additional details or an exact release date.

'Secret Invasion'

Secret Invasion is another big-name Marvel series set to come out in 2022. It will star Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, as well as The Crown's Olivia Colman and Game of Thrones' Emilia Clarke (in yet-to-be-announced roles). The series is expected to release in the fall.

'Obi-Wan Kenobi'

The highly anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi series will reportedly take place after the events in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and the demise of Darth Vader. Both Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor will reprise the roles they played in the Star Wars films. A release date has not yet been announced.

'Andor'

Another Star Wars spin-off, Andor will star Narcos: Mexico actor Diego Luna, who also played the character of Cassian Andor in the film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The series is said to be a prequel to that film, taking place five years previous. It will feature 12 episodes that will premiere some time in 2022.

'Peter Pan & Wendy'

Peter Pan & Wendy is a Disney+ original film that was announced in December 2020 but experienced some production delays. The live-action adaptation of the classic J.M. Barrie tale is now set to release late in 2022, and will feature Yara Shahidi as Tinkerbell, Jude Law as Captain Hook, and Jim Gaffigan as Smee, as well as up-and-comers Alexander Moloney (Peter Pan) and Ever Anderson (Wendy).
