Does father know best? That's what some people believe after North West shared a video of herself dressed up like Ice Spice. Fans are rallying behind Kanye "Ye" West after watching the clip, which features the 9-year-old lip syncing to some very inappropriate lyrics. This might have been exact what Ye was afraid of when it comes to his kids and social media.
North shared videos on TikTok that kicked off a firestorm of responses.
The daughter of Kim Kardashian and Ye posted a series of videos to the account she shares with her mother. In one video, North appears to be performing alongside Ice Spice, as the pink clad rapper joined North for an afternoon of fun.
North's friend even pops in the back of the video as the trio lip sync to one of Ice Spice's hit songs.
In later videos, North appears to take on the role of her favorite artist.
In a since-deleted video, North performs while wearing a wig made to look like Ice Spice's signature orange curls while wearing a necklace similar to the one the rapper wore in an earlier video with North.
The 9-year-old then lip syncs to another one of Ice Spice's songs — one that critics were quick to point out was majorly inappropriate for the tween.
The lyrics sparked outrage among Twitter users.
The song included lyrics that include lines like, "He say that I'm good enough, grabbin' my duh-duh-duh," and "but I know where he at, like, bet he blowin' her back" which commenters point out are so unbelievably inappropriate for a 9-year-old to hear, let along sing along to, especially in videos seen by millions.
Ye has been vocal about his concerns over his children's use of social media.
Fans shared an old clip of the father talking about how he wanted to protect his daughter from the dangers of social media.
"I told y’all before about this TikTok stuff," Kanye posted on Instagram at the time. "Now my 8-year-old on here singing she fell in love with an emo girl, Leftist don't want fathers to have no say in our childrens' lives."
Not everyone was worried about Northie.
There were plenty of people who came to both Kim and North's defense, reminding people that North is just doing what so many other children before her have done by emulating her favorite performer — although those of us of a certain age do benefit of not having our performances of "Like a Virgin" shared with millions of people online.
That being said, we can totally understand why Ye and others are so upset about North getting all of this attention.
