Police Reportedly Plan To Charge ‘Multiple People’ in Connection to Matthew Perry’s Death

Eight months after Friends star Matthew Perry's unexpected death in October 2023, it sounds like law enforcement's investigation is drawing to a close. As police have tried to determine exactly what happened to cause the actor to die from a ketamine overdose, sources are now saying they believe "multiple people" should be charged in Matthew's death at the age of 54.

Although initially the investigation appeared to be closed after his cause of death was determined to be due to the acute effects of ketamine, in May news broke that it had been reopened. At the time, TMZ reported that both local police and the Drug Enforcement Administration were looking into the role ketamine played in Matthew's death.

Now, the investigation is coming to a close.

According to what a law enforcement investigative source told People, the investigation is "nearing its conclusion." This could mean arrests will be made in the near future — apparently, with the information they have now, authorities think "multiple people" could be charged.

Ultimately, whether anyone is charged isn't up to local law enforcement.

The source added that is a decision that will need to be made by the US Attorney's Office once it has the results of the investigation. An office representative responded "No comment" when People reached out on Tuesday, so it's unclear at this point what will happen next.

The focus of the investigation has been on finding the source of the ketamine.

A source from the Los Angeles Police Department previously told People that investigators were working with the US Postal Inspector and the DEA to determine where the ketamine found in Matthew's system after his death had come from. Though the actor was being treated with ketamine infusion therapy, his last session had been long enough before his death that it shouldn't have shown up in the medical examiner's report.

So far, no official results have been shared.

But if People's intel is correct, it seems as if the results of the investigation will be coming soon — and hopefully, that means all of the unanswered questions surrounding Matthew's death will be solved so his family can have that closure.
