With the conflict in Gaza ongoing and less and less aid being able to make it to the war-ravaged country, some celebrities have spoken up about it. The problem is, in doing so, they risk the chance of those who are opposed to their views shaming them. For popular kids’ entertainer Ms. Rachel, however, that’s the furthest from her concerns as she continues to show support for kids in Gaza.
Ms. Rachel, whose actual name outside of her learning videos is Rachel Accurso, shared as much with the Boston public radio station WBUR-FM. Ms. Rachel said during an interview that it’s important to speak up for kids who are in Gaza living with fear and very little resources such as food, water, and even medical supplies.
Ms. Rachel says it’s important to speak up for kids in Gaza.
In the interview with WBUR-FM, Ms. Rachel doubled down on her support for kids in Gaza. The southern Israel and Gaza conflict has been going on for quite some time. Israelis and the Palestinians continue to fight over the Gaza Strip, which has made living in the country unbearable for many. The popular children’s host aims to continue to show support for those with children.
“I have a 3-month-old. I have a 7-year-old. As a mom, just the daily things I do with them thinking, ‘Moms in Gaza can’t do this right now,'” she told WBUR-FM. “My little one is hungry, and I feed her right away, and she’s crying, and I’m able to comfort her and we have a peaceful environment. And it just shakes me to my core that I’ve met two mothers that weren’t able to help their little ones. And I think it’s just putting myself in that position over and over.”
Although some of Ms. Rachel’s critics (does she really have any, though?) have fired back at her for her vocal support for kids and families stuck with no support in Gaza, she shared with listeners that she reminds herself why it’s important for her to talk about them.
“I have to remind myself that people don’t know my heart, and people try to tell you who you are, but you know who you are,” she said. “And I know how deeply and equally I care for all children, and I do lean on my faith in that situation.”
Ms. Rachel featured a Gaza refugee in one of her videos.
Prior to her interview with the public radio station, Ms. Rachel featured a young girl from Gaza named Rahaf on her Instagram and in an episode of her show. She explains on instagram that Rahaf is a double amputee who lost her legs in an air strike in Gaza. She and her mom were able to go to the United States, but her younger brothers and dad remain in Gaza.
In the caption of her video on instagram, Ms. Rachel wrote that she put herself in the position of the family and switched their roles. She tried to imagine her daughter being the victim of an air strike and then being away from her son, who was starving so much she could no longer eat in front of him during video calls.
That’s the reality she learned about when she met with Rahaf and her mother. It has helped her remain dedicated to showing support for children who are victims just by living in Gaza.
