King Charles must be one proud grandpa. It sounds like the monarch is hoping to include Prince George in his upcoming coronation ceremony. This is big news because younger children have historically been sidelined during the exciting process. If Charles is hoping to win people over, seeing George in this role might help.
The Sunday Times says George is likely to have a big moment on the world stage in May.
Rumor has it that Prince William and Princess Kate have plans to meet with the new monarch ahead of his May 6 coronation to discuss a possible role for George at the event.
Typically, children George's age watch from the sidelines during crowning ceremonies, but because George's own coronation ceremony is likely to only be a few decades away, the 9-year-old may have a chance to participate.
Charles didn't even take part in his own mother's coronation.
Granted, Charles was only 4 at the time, but he hung out in the royal spectators' box with his aunt and his grandmother during Queen Elizabeth's 1952 coronation.
It's likely George's age that will give him a leg up, though. His younger brother and sister probably will have to watch everything from afar, which isn't too surprising because Princess Charlotte is only 7 and Prince Louis is 4.
There's always a chance William and Kate will say no.
It may seem like everything will hinge on whether Charles wants his grandson involved, but his parents are likely the ones who will have the final say.
The Telegraph reports that the royal parents are "mulling over" the plan given what's at stake. Millions of people are likely going to tune into the event (not including those gathered in person) and George will be put under a lot of pressure. That may prove to be something they just don't want for their son because they've worked so hard to make his life as normal as possible.
George isn't the only grandchild up for consideration at the ceremony.
Camilla is hoping to involve five of her grandchildren in her own part of the ceremony, asking them each to help hold a canopy over her head while she's anointed by the archbishop of Canterbury.
That will be a huge moment for them, especially considering all but one of them have remained mostly out of the spotlight over the years.
No matter what happens, it will be a milestone moment for the world.
People really will be tuning in from all over the world to watch the historic event.
Regardless of what members of the royal family end up getting called up to assist in the coronation, they will have their names forever tied to the moment the new king was crowned.
We get why this is such a hard choice for everyone involved. We wish William and Kate the best of luck when it comes to making it!
