Reese's team shut the rumor down quickly.
"This story is completely fabricated and not true," Reese's rep said in an exclusive statement to Page Six.
Well, there we have it — and in no uncertain terms, either. It was a nice dream while it lasted!
Where did the rumor start, exactly?
Australian publication New Idea first reported on the possible pairing, claiming that they have been looking into possible projects to work on together. A source told the outlet, "Kevin’s had his eye on Reese ever since she won her Oscar, but he didn’t count on finding her absolutely charming as hell."
Reportedly, they've been in contact for a possible collaboration.
"They’ve been calling and texting on the pretense of finding the perfect script, but it’s becoming almost a daily occurrence," the source claimed, adding that the actors would spend time together if they were in the same city, and that Kevin had invited Reese to his home in Colorado.
"Their friends think they’re a great match but are giving them the space they need to see if it’s the real deal before laying all their cards down in public," the source said.

Social media took the story and ran with it.
After Naughty But Nice podcast host Rob Shuter posted about the possible romance on X (formerly Twitter), word spread quickly, and fans had mixed reactions.
"Kevin Costner is dating Reese Witherspoon?" one person tweeted. "What??? You go boy!!! You go girl!!!"
"So there's rumors of Kevin Costner and Reese Witherspoon dating?!" another pondered. "She's 47, he's what, 68ish? Those two? Really?"
Both Reese and Kevin went through divorces this year.
Reese announced her divorce from ex-husband Jim Toth in March of this year after 12 years of marriage. Her dating life has become a topic of conversation, with rumors that she was seeing Tom Brady before their reps revealed that the two had never even met.
