Sophie Turner is setting the record straight. The actress is speaking out for the first time since she and her estranged husband Joe Jonas became embroiled in a contentious divorce and custody battle over their two daughters. Joe abruptly filed for divorce in fall 2023, and immediately, the media began painting Sophie as a neglectful mother who abandoned her children to go party. Some believed the reports were actually coming straight from Joe himself.
Sophie hit back, saying that Joe was holding their girls hostage in New York while she was working in England. And now, Sophie's opening up about what that time was really like for her.

Sophie needed to think about becoming a young mom.
“Maybe because I was so young, I sat on it for a week,” Sophie explained in the June cover story for British Vogue. She was only 24 when she found out she was pregnant with her first daughter Willa while she was on a retreat in Bali. Willa was born in 2020.
She also gave credit where it was due. “Thankfully there were therapists there to help me talk things through.”
Eventually, she realized she was ready to be a mom.
She shared that she didn’t tell Joe about her pregnancy until she returned home from her retreat. “I remember throwing the pregnancy test at him, saying, ‘What do you think we should do? Do you think we should have it?’” she explained, calling life in your 20s “frivolous.”
“At that point, I really didn’t know if I wanted to be a mother, but something changed in me that day. I just knew I had to have her.”

Willa's baby sister came along two years later.
Unlike her big sister Willa, younger daughter Delphine, who is almost 2, was very much planned, according to her mother.
“Because my ex and I travel so much, I wanted Willa to have a sibling. I wanted them to have each other,” she explained. “They’re so much fun, total girlie girls and absolute rays of sunshine in my life.”
Sophie gives her daughters credit for getting her through the last few months.
Sophie says her daughters keep her going as she and Joe push through their divorce, which Sophie asked a judge to reactivate after the former couple were unable to reach a settlement.
“There were some days that I didn’t know if I was going to make it. I would call my lawyer saying, ‘I can’t do this. I just can’t.’ I was just never strong enough to stand up for myself. And then, finally, after two weeks of me being in a rut, she reminded me that it was my children I was fighting for,” she shared. “Once anyone says to me, ‘Do it for your kids,’ I’m doing it. I wouldn’t do it for myself, but I’ll find the strength for them.”
The accusations that she was a party girl were hurtful to her.
“I mean, those were the worst few days of my life,” she says of the early days of her very public breakup and the articles that came out claiming that she was partying instead of caring for her girls.
“I was contracted to be on set for another two weeks, so I couldn’t leave,” she explained, calling the guilt she felt over leaving them “so real.” She added, “I just kept having to say to myself, ‘None of this is true. You are a good mum and you’ve never been a partier.’”
