Netflix always seems to be just ahead of the curve when it comes to launching new movies and television shows that their audience craves. The streaming platform reads the minds of what their audience wants, and even if the critics don't understand the choice, the viewership speaks — and that's how their super popular teen-romance movie, The Kissing Booth, came to be. There was a need for the resurgence of this genre of movies. It was once popular in the '90s, so it was time.
Netflix delivered, and The Kissing Booth was a huge hit, according to the platform. It was such a success that the company decided to make a sequel and a third in the franchise, shooting them at the same time. The story line is everything we want in a cheesy and lovable teen romance drama. There's young high school love, some summertime drama, and best friends and secret crushes.
The casting of the movie was perfect – nailing the chemistry between the leading characters and the supporting actors as well. Elle Evans, played by Joey King, falls in love with the ultimate bad boy, Noah Flynn (Jacob Elordi), nailed the emotions of high schoolers in love and not really sure what to do with themselves.
Watching the movie — and waiting for the second and third versions to come out — we totally forgot that they acted in other movies, too. Here are roles The Kissing Booth actors starred in, as well as memorable television appearances, too.
Joey King in 'Ramona and Beezus'
At only 9 years old, Joey starred alongside Selena Gomez in Ramona and Beezus. Taking on the role of Ramona, Joey played a trouble-making third grader who found herself in some family issues. There were some sweet and serious scenes in this movie, and despite her young age, she rocked it.
Joey King in 'Crazy, Stupid, Love'
Crazy, Stupid, Love is a romantic comedy starring Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore, Emma Stone, and Joey. Playing the daughter of a newly separated man, she wasn't a big character in the movie but was adorable. At only 10 years old, it was clear Joey was good at acting from an early age.
Joey King in 'The Dark Knight Rises'
Yes, Joey also starred in a Batman movie – acting in 2012 The Dark Knight Rises movie with Christian Bale and Anne Hathaway. She didn't have a massive role but an important one, playing the younger version of Talia al Ghul.
Joey King in ' The Conjuring'
Once again proving her ability to act far older than she is, Joey starred as Christine Perron, one of the daughters in the 2013 horror movie The Conjuring. She played scared like no one else in this haunted farmhouse movie.
Joey King in 'White House Down'
Trying her hand at an action movie, Joey starred in White House Down as a young girl who was kidnapped. At 13 years old, she took on some really serious moments, including a scary terrorist scene where she had to act as if a gun was to her head. It was real feeling.
Joey King in 'Horton Hears a Who'
Even earlier, in 2008, when Joey King was only 9, she lent her acting skills to her first animated movie, voicing Katie in Horton Hears a Who! The role was small, but everyone who loves that movie remembers the part where she speaks on screen, because it's one of the cutest sounds ever.
Joel Courtney in 'Super 8'
Joel was only 15 years old when he played Joseph "Joe" Lamb in the 2011 J.J. Abrams film Super 8. The film follows a group of friends who see a train crash happen and then have to figure out why strange things happen in their town. It was clear from early on Joel had some amazing acting abilities.
Molly Ringwald in 'Jem and the Holograms'
We all know Molly as the teen queen she is from her acting in classic iconic movies from the 1980s. However, other roles she's taken on since — such as the aunt in Jem and the Holograms — go slightly forgotten … not because she wasn't amazing, but because it's not a role we've seen her take on before.
Molly Ringwald in 'Not Another Teen Movie'
Not Another Teen Movie poked fun at the typical tropes we'd see time and again in the typical teen movies. It was so amazing when Molly Ringwald – the queen of teen movies – made an appearance as the flight attendant. She didn't take herself too seriously, and it's one of the big reasons we love her.
Maisie Richardson-Sellers in 'Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens'
We know Maisie playing as Chloe Winthrop in The Kissing Booth 2 and 3, but before landing this role, she briefly appeared as the role of Korr Sella in Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens. She kicked butt as a female human military officer who served as a commander in the naval forces of the Resistance.
Camilla Wolfson in 'Action Point'
This American comedy follows an amusement park owner who gets into all sorts of dangerous situations. Camilla plays the role of Mia in Action Point, which, funnily enough, is the same name of the role she plays in 2020's The Kissing Booth 2.
Jacob Elordi in 'Euphoria'
Watching Jacob take on the role of Nate Jacobs in the HBO show Euphoria, it's clear he's an incredible actor, though he hasn't been at it for too long. In the show, he tackles some pretty intense scenes and themes, and each time, it's believable.
Taylor Zakhar Perez in 'Embeds'
Before Taylor found himself in The Kissing Booth as a love interest, he was one of the five graduates in the 2017 series Embeds. On the show, he became one of the reports who followed along the presidential campaign. He played Noah Torres, a trust fund kid who decided to try his hand as a political reporter.
Joey King in 'Ghost Whisperer'
Before Joey made her mark on big movies like The Kissing Booth — or television series like The Act — she took on smaller roles on television, such as an episode on Ghost Whisperer, when she played as a really young ghost who was trying to figure out what was happening.
Molly Ringwald in 'Rainbow Brite'
One of our favoirte shows from the very early '80s was none other than Rainbow Brite. It was iconic, so when we heard it was being remade in 2014 as a television series — and Molly Ringwald was slated to voice the character of "the Dark Princess" — we were all for it.
