There is nothing in this world more delightful than crawling into a freshly laundered bed cocoon. This is a phenomenon that can be ruined by many things, but maybe the worst of all is that awful, icky smell of musty sheets. Thankfully, there's an easy (and really, really cheap) way to avoid this from here to eternity, and you probably already have the solution at home: cotton balls.
The trick is simple: Grab a handful of cotton balls and just toss 'em in your linen closet. If you're looking for something a little more advanced, you can spray or dip them in a scent first and then tuck them in between the layers. But really, they just need to grace your linens with their presence to bust must for good.

Cotton is super absorbent, and if all goes according to plan, they'll suck up whatever moisture gets in the air before it can get into your sheets and towels and harvest itself in that musty smell.
Theoretically, the same cotton balls will work indefinitely, but we love the idea of swapping out scents every now and then. It's so easy and cheap, it won't cost us anything anyway.
