Anyone with a social media account can pretty much attest to the fact that beauty trends get pretty weird sometimes. We have all seen our fair share of eyebrow trends (braided eyebrows, halo eyebrows, rainbow eyebrows, etc.) and we all know that lip art can get pretty insane as well (someone actually painted a picture from the royal wedding on their lips). But, we have especially noticed a surge in wild nail trends as of late. And when we say wild, we mean it! From nail trends that are straight up disgusting to ones that make it pretty impossible for someone to even move their hands, there is an abundance of crazy ones out there.
There are some nail trends we can totally get on board with like jelly nails or negative space nails. But, as for ones that include dead bugs, poppable pimples, or lit candles, um, we'll pass. And if anyone thinks that those sound impossible to wear on nails, they are sadly mistaken. Just when we think we have seen it all, another viral nail trend takes off leaving us all confused and amazed. Many of the strange designs have come from Russian nail art studio Nail Sunny — they are clearly a very creative bunch.
Here are 21 of the wildest and weirdest nail trends we've come across so far. And we are pretty sure that there will be plenty more to come!
Corkscrew Nails
Corkscrew nails took the Internet by storm not too long ago. Although we have no idea how we would function with these things on, people seemed pretty into giving them a try!
Colored Pencil Nails
The craziest things about these colored pencil nails is probably the fact that they actually work! Yes, that is real colored lead in there! Just in time for back to school.
Period Nails
What could possibly be more feminist than period nails? This idea showed up in quite a few different styles on Instagram. Very clever!
Sonogram Nails
Some expectant moms hang their sonogram on the refrigerator. Others turn it into nail art. This nail tech made a pretty memorable manicure for one pregnant mama.
Blinking Eye Nails
These are pretty creepy. The eyes already make a weird design as is, but when they're seen in motion they can actually blink!
Zit Nails
Among the grossest of the gross are hands down the poppable zit nails. Anyone who is at all disgusted by popping pimples probably won't enjoy this YouTube tutorial.
Dead Bug Nails
These dead bug nails are likely from my nightmares. It isn't uncommon for people to use REAL dead bugs in their nail art. I think I'll pass on this one.
Teeth Nails
Another gem from the Nail Sunny salon. Just when we thought things couldn't get anymore wild, along came teeth nails!
Hairy Selfie Nails
These selfie nails are eerie for sure. And the hair on them take it to a whole other level! But, the artwork is still incredibly impressive.
Negative Space Nails
Negative space nails are one of the cuter trends that are actually wearable for most people. They are pretty much just fun designs painted over a clear bed. Nail stickers work well for this trend too.
Reptile Nails
These reptile nails are just a tad scary. The texture is super cool, but the way it bleeds onto the skin is a little too creepy for us!
Comb Nails
And then there were comb nails. This bizarre design may be able to comb someone's baby hairs, but we're pretty sure they would be a little annoying to actually wear around.
Jelly Nails
The '90s-inspired jelly nails trend actually makes for a pretty cute summer manicure. This nail trend is reminiscent of the popular jelly shoes that many of us had as a child.
Braces Nails
We have all seen braces in someone's mouth — not so much on someone nails. This is another one that seems pretty impossible to do anything in.
Snow Globe Nails
If someone is looking for some holiday nail inspiration this Christmas then they can always try snow globe nails. This design is a whole new level of extra!
