Ugly Halloween Sweaters Are the New Ugly Christmas Sweaters, & We’re Honestly Here for It

If there's one thing that thoroughly divides us all, it's those of us who dream about fall in the dead of summer — pumpkin spiced lattes and all — while the rest of us are still trying to soak up the last days of sunshine. But even if you can't yet imagine donning fall boots and chunky sweaters in a matter of weeks (OK, make that months), you can't deny the allure of autumn. Golden leaves, brisk air, kids back in school ALL DAY … you have to admit, it is kind of dreamy. And one of the many joys of being back in the full swing is that Halloween is right around the corner. (Who doesn't love Halloween?) For all my fellow Hallow's Eve lovers, there's a new trend brewing that I think you're gonna like. In fact, I know you are.

Allow me to introduce you to ... the ugly Halloween sweater!

It's kind of like the newborn cousin of the ugly Christmas sweater. And honestly, it's about time.

These puppies come in all sorts of hideous, yet amazing prints and patterns, including Dracula and skeleton-themed pullovers.

And although your first impression might be, "Do we REALLY need these things in our lives?" The answer to that one is yes, yes we do. Please allow me to explain why.

Not only are they hilarious, but ... they're kind of oddly cool too.

Plus, they're pretty perfect for those of us last-minute Nellies (ahem, me) who can never seem to pull together a clever costume for a Halloween party in time. These eliminate some of the brainpower needed if you don't have the time — or desire — to dream up some creative costume. They're also super comfy and warm, which will come in handy on chilly nights in late October.

Another perk? You can rewear them next year, because just like ugly Christmas sweaters, who cares? They kind of never go out of style.

Did we mention they also come in kids' sizes?

So if you ever get hit with a surprise Halloween parade before you got your kid a costume, this'll do just fine. And they're relatively affordable: Kids' sweaters sell for $30, whereas adult sizes will run you $40 at HalloweenCostumes.com.

This isn't the first time Halloween-lovers have taken the liberty of "borrowing" some Christmas traditions.

For one thing, we started seeing "Halloween trees" popping up all over Instagram in the last few years, which are basically Christmas trees masquerading as macabre evergreens decked out in Halloween decor.

But that's not all.

This week, the internet was more or less freaking out over the black ceramic Halloween trees that just hit the shelves at Michaels.

They're basically the same ceramic Christmas trees your mom has put out on the coffee table in your parents' living room since 1983, which is probably why people geeked out hardcore over them. (And why they're completely sold out online.)

But can you blame us? The delightfully spooky trees remind us of our childhoods but way, way better. And honestly, the ugly Halloween sweaters kinda do too, because they have a very '80s/early '90s vibe to them in all the right ways.

I don't know about you, but I'm OK with all of the Halloween anticipation we've been seeing lately, even if August is barely half over. I'm done sweating through all of my T-shirts — bring on fall!
