Videos of white woman yelling at Black people are nothing new. We’ve all seen plenty of them over the years. These unhinged “Karens” will yell at, threaten, and sometimes even physically attack Black people in the name of proving a point. A video that has recently gone viral shows a Black woman being harassed by a white mom at some sort of elementary school celebration.
What’s most shocking is that the woman does all her threatening with her baby in her lap. And the Black woman, who filmed most of the interaction, remains calm, even as the white woman threatens her life.
We don’t know all the details, but it’s easy to understand what’s happening.
The video was initially shared on Instagram, but seemed to get noticed more on X. Neither post gives much detail or context about what happened or where they are during the altercation. It does sound like someone on the school staff at one point says, “this is a kindergarten graduation.” When the video starts, there is space on a bench in what looks like a school cafeteria or auditorium, and it seems that an argument is already in progress.
A man, presumably the husband or partner of the white mom, is complaining about the seat next to the Black woman. “Weāre all sitting, itās all right,” she says, but he continues to complain. “Youāre sitting, sir,” the Black woman reminds him, hoping that will be the end of the argument.
That was only the beginning.
Quickly, the video scrambles. It’s likely that someone knocked the phone out of her hands, and not by accident. When filming resumes, the white woman is seething with rage. She stands and reaches across the man, phone in hand, and swings at the Black woman.
“Can you move, please?” the man demands.
“No, Iām not moving,” the Black woman says. She repeats herself, resolute in her decision. “No, I am not.”
At this point, things escalate to dangerous levels.
The white mom, still seething as her children sit next to her, looking bewildered, is getting angrier by the minute. “I will f—ing kill you,” she says, her face serious. As fast as the words leave her mouth, she lunges again. This time, the man decided to step in and keep her from making contact. So she hits him instead.
But she’s not done yet. She’s about to do something shocking and gross. Again, she leans across the man, and spits at the Black woman. It is only in that moment that people around them finally react to what has been happening. School officials can be seen coming over to find out what the ruckus is.
The white couple then tries to paint themselves as the victims, while the Black woman continues to film.
No one knows why the Black woman seemingly being harassed didn’t react more strongly.
The video then cuts to the white couple being questioned by a Black woman wearing a vest that says “sheriff.” As she talks to them, the white mom gives the Black woman the finger. Despite her protestations, the sheriff tells the white woman that the Black woman is well within her rights to film the interaction.
However, she does realize it’s a distraction and moves them away before the video cuts off.
People were genuinely shocked by the white woman’s brazen act.
Replies to the video on X are full of people calling out the white woman’s behavior.
“I pray for something like this – that š¤¬ is so lucky because she would have been ā°ļø once that spit landed,” one person wrote.
“Somebody needs to teach this lowlife some manners,” someone else said.
Another person exclaimed: “Oh there will be no discussion after spitting!!!! ZERO!!!!”
“This black women is better than me .. aināt know way she doesnāt get her @$$ beat for spitting in my face .. and she definitely also shouldāve been arrested for a hate crime,” another comment reads.
