A Boomer Intentionally Poisoned My Son & Now I’m Thinking About Pressing Charges

There are stereotypes associated with each generation. People like to say Gen Z is socially conscious and accepting but lacks work ethic. Millennials allegedly need a trophy for everything and are driven by their values. For the older crowd — the baby boomers — the stereotypes include headstrong and goal-oriented, but closed-minded and not the best at communicating or even empathizing with others.

We all know that stereotypes are problematic and reductive. Still, there is some truth to them. One mom recently posted on Reddit about an incident that has all the hallmarks of being caused by a boomer that has her considering whether she should press charges.

This mom on Reddit shared that her son has celiac disease.

A mother on Reddit, wrote about her encounter with a baby boomer that had her seeing red. The woman sent her 9-year-old son over to a friend’s house for a sleepover. Her son has celiac disease and cannot eat anything that contains gluten. So she carefully packs all of his meals and snacks so there won’t be any issues with his food.

But all of her planning went awry when the sleepover host’s grandfather learned of the boy’s dietary restrictions.

When this boomer grandad learned of her kid's allergies, he took it upon himself to prove her wrong.

As soon as he heard about the child autoimmune condition, he started "going on about how these allergies didn’t exist when he was a kid." His pontificating should have been a sign of bad things to come. The next morning, when the OP arrived to pick up her son, he was green and throwing up.

The host’s mother apologetically told the OP that the grandfather purposely switched out her son’s pre-prepared breakfast for one with wheat. Naturally and understandably, the OP lost it. "I am normally mild tempered but I did yell at him," she wrote.

Naturally, this mom went off.

In the middle of the dressing down, the OP let the F bomb slip. Instead of acknowledging his dangerous actions, the boomer grandfather got caught up on the curse word. Afterward, the host child’s mother continued to apologize.

The OP took her son home and spent the rest of the day nursing her son back to health. In a brief update, the OP wrote that the host’s mother, who is good friends with the OP, agreed she should press charges against the grandfather. She’s also sick of his shenanigans and this was the last straw for her.

Many believe this mom should press charges.

The people of Reddit agreed that she was well within her rights to get the law involved.

“He intentionally poisoned your kid,” one user said simply. “Report him. He shouldn’t be around any children.”

Other people with celiac disease were infuriated by this story.

“I feel so badly for the son,” one user wrote. “People lump celiac in with food allergies when it's an autoimmune disease…I can't even figure out why the grandfather would care. It effects him in exactly zero ways.”

Having to answer to a higher authority might nail this lesson home for this grandad. He likely wouldn’t have to serve time in prison, but hopefully the shame and embarrassment would help him understand the gravity of the situation.
