I Refuse To Straighten My 18-Month-Old’s Hair To Be Flower Girl in My SIL’s Wedding & She’s Mad

Stories about bridezillas are totally common. These brides-to-be demand that their weddings be just so. Everything has to be perfect, whether it’s the bridesmaid dresses or the guest list. They require their visions to be enacted to the letter. A mom on Reddit was shocked when her sister-in-law told her that in order for her daughter to be a flower girl at her upcoming wedding, she must straighten her hair. But the woman is pretty adamant that it won’t be happening. Let the drama begin.

The girl in question is a young toddler.

Even though the woman seems resolute in her decision, she still decided to consult the AITA community. The woman explained that her sister-in-law is mad at her because she refuses to straighten her 18-month-old daughter’s hair for the wedding. According to the mom, her SIL is demanding it so “all the flower girls can match.”

“Personally I think that 1.5 is too young to straighten her hair, it’s not good for it and the risk of burning is significant,” the mom wrote in her post. “She knew she had curly hair when she asked us so idk why now 2 months before the wedding it is an issue.”

The mom loves her daughter’s hair as is.

She explained that her daughter has tight curls that are long when wet but shorter when they’re dry. She finds the look “adorable.” Although her daughter is still young, she fears that aside from damage to her hair, the change will also send a less than positive message.

“I simply do not understand the point of changing the way she is to fit someone else’s picture perfect wedding,” she explained in her post. The mom made clear that she would style her daughter’s hair nicely for the wedding. But she wanted to know if these were “standard expectations for a flower girl at a wedding.”

People were very clear about her SIL being a bridezilla.

“Sure. Let’s put a 200-300 degree metal clamp right beside a young toddler’s head and within hands reach. Your SIL is an idiot,” one person wrote.

“There is no way a 1.5 year old would be able to have their hair straightened without getting burned AND damaging the hair. The hair is too delicate at that age,” one commenter pointed out. “Why can’t the other flower girl use curlers in her hair so her hair is curly?”

“Don’t argue – just say, with a smile and a no big deal attitude – ‘I understand you want a uniform look. As such, daughter will just come as a guest! I definitely don’t want you to not have the wedding you envision,'” someone else suggested.

The mom shared an update.

She amended her original post to explain to everyone what happened after she first wrote.

“Before we were able to call her she saw the post HAHA! Her friend told her about it… She lost it on my hubby and at this point our daughter will no longer be a flower girl and I don’t think we will be going at all… yikes!” the woman wrote.
