Love him or hate him, Jeffree Star is one of the biggest names in the beauty world right now. His videos are next level, and his makeup line is adored by millions of fans and YouTube celebrities alike. And now Jeffree may have scored his biggest fan yet: future President of the United States Hillary Clinton.
Yes. Really.
Jeffree tweeted this during the final presidential debate:
Because I live in fear of people deleting tweets, this says: "Thank you @HillaryClinton for wearing my liquid lipstick tonight!! The debate was ON FIRE!!"
Actual footage of my reaction:
And I wasn't the only one. As if with one voice, Twitter absolutely FREAKED OUT.
But the number one question was "WHAT SHADE WAS SHE WEARING?!" And Star, naturally, had the answer...
"Shade "Masochist" looks so amazing on her!!!"
Masochist is a dark pink, described as "The color of crushed berries on ice."
This shade has become really popular (likely thanks to Star's tweet), so it's available in limited quantities — you can only buy two at a time. (Masochist Liquid Lip Velour, $18, Jeffree Star Cosmetics).
And here's Hillary during the final debate.
Shade-matching from wire photos is always difficult, because lip colors often look DRASTICALLY different depending on lighting, post-production, and even which photographer took the pictures. This photo — and her lipstick color — was consistent with the way Clinton looked on my TV during the debate.
Based on these pictures, it's definitely *possible* that Hillary is wearing Jeffree's lipstick — but is it likely?
Despite being one of the world's biggest beauty YouTubers, Jeffree Star is often mired in controversy — see his very public fight with Kat Von D earlier this year, not to mention those accusations of racism. While it would be awesome for Clinton to support indie makeup lines, I wonder how likely it is that her team would choose THIS PARTICULAR BRAND to rep during one of the biggest nights of her campaign.
Meanwhile, Star is the master of self-promotion — it would be easy for his team to fire off a tweet like this, knowing that it will boost sales, get press (HIIIIIII), and also be impossible to disprove. Clinton's campaign has been adamant about not discussing makeup in the lead-up to the presidential election (which is fair), so it's really difficult to check the veracity of Star's statement.
But check it I shall — I've reached out to Clinton's campaign for comment, and I'll update this post if/when I hear anything back.
#ImWithHer, no matter what lipstick she's wearing.
