Makeup mogul Jeffree Star shared the first images of his new collaboration with Morphe. Trendmood reports that the set includes a 30-pan palette ($35), 10 makeup brushes available individually or as a set ($42), a set of three blending sponges ($16), and a beauty mist ($18). This is Star's second collection with the brand.
Fans immediately began asking questions about the collab.
Many makeup enthusiasts were of two minds about the collection. Some questioned why Star collaborated with another brand when he owns his own namesake brand. Others reaffirmed their opposition to Star, after he's been at the center of numerous controversies.
Wait, doesn't Jeffree Star have his own makeup brand?
Yes, yes, he does. The Morphe collaboration is meant to be separate and distinct from Jeffree Star CosmeticsĀ with a lower price point. In February 2019, he told Paper Magazine that "my brand is more of a higher price point, so I really wanted to team up with someone who could cater to a whole different audience as well…[Morphe] always believed in me from the beginning, so I thought they'd be the perfect partner."
People wondered why Star's Morphe collection exists in the first place.
Many asked why Star partnered with Morphe instead of releasing products through his own makeup line; fans also wondered if the Morphe products would be inferior quality.
"I love jeffree but i totally donāt see the point in doing an eyeshadow palette with another brand when he has eyeshadow palettes with his own brand. I get the rest as they arenāt products he has with his own brand but the palette makes no sense to me and the morphs quality isnāt going to be anywhere near the JSC quality," wrote Instagram user @shannmxx,
"I just donāt get why he would collab with them when his own brand has better eyeshadows," wrote Instagram user @rahma.almajid.
"So Iām guessing itās morpheās eyeshadow formula? Yikes," wrote Instagram user @elizameeran.
TheĀ Star-Berry Set and Refresh Mist specifically drew criticism.
"I want the strawberry mist so bad bc I love their setting spray but I donāt want to buy anything with his name attached to it," wrote Instagram user @melpeach.
"didn't jefree himself say you don't want fragrances in skincare stuff? when he dragged kylies line?? now he's out here with this strawberry mist? what even," wrote Instagram user @your.newmom.
"…NOONE WANTS TO SMELL LIKE STRAWBERRIES IN THE FACE ALL DAY LONG LMAO," wrote Instagram user @_angeleihsmami_.
Instagram commenters reserved particular umbrage for the eye palette.
"This is only good for pale people. Anyone above fair-light skintone is not going to be able to use more than half this palette. Expected," wrote Instagram user @p.s.lovesummer
"I LOVE Jeffreeās products… but this palette is boring. Doesnāt inspire me at all! And thatās a first," wrote Instagram user @quadameg.
"The palette looks cheap and similar colours can be found in some much better quality palettes from this own brand… Issa now from me. Disappointed," wrote Instagram user @ennitiirakari.
"Is it just me or does it look like this collection is from Claireās?" wrote Instagram user @asmineeash.
People weren't much kinder on Twitter.

Iām wondering if @MorpheBrushes did their research on Jeffree prior to partnering as Jeffree has a long and sordid history of being problematic, specifically to BIPOC folx, women and trans folx. So to show my solidarity I canāt possibly support the brand any longer.
