Sigh — here we are again.
Nearly one full trip around the sun since their explosive friend break-up in 2017, and the Jeffree Star/Manny MUA drama has returned. No one is still entirely sure what happened between the once inseparable duo, but all that's known for sure is that they haven't been seen in public together since the holidays last year.
Since then, the waters have been pretty calm regarding these two. But now the drama is back — with a vengeance.
Gather around, kids. The tea is scalding this morning.
So you know "so pigmented."
The beauty-blogger term used so much by Manny MUA that it became his signature catchphrase in 2017...
The one that's on his hats...
And his T-shirts?
Google "so pigmented," and you'll realize just how synonymous with Manny MUA is really is.
Well, uh, his ex-best-friend Jeffree Star just got the trademark for it.
On August 3, he filed for legal dibs on the phrase — it appears just for the use of merchandising, not for cosmetics — and it's been granted.
The filing says Jeffree Star Cosmetics is an "original applicant," which means Manny never had exclusive rights to use the phrase on his products, nor did anyone else.
But now Star does have that exclusive right.
We know. Awkward.
Of course, this can't in any way stop other YouTubers from muttering "so pigmented" IRL or on social media — just from putting it on their merchandise.
But it may give Star the power to eliminate Manny's merchandise featuring the phrase — which is a significant amount of it — should he desire to.
And Jeffree Star has never filed a trademark that he didn't use.
Whether or not Star intends to go the extra step and use the trademark to create his own line of "so pigmented" merchandise is something only he knows.
What caused this sudden legal desire for this claim is unknown, but one thing is for sure.
This is YouTuber revenge on an unprecedented level.
