If there were actually an award for husband of the year, one man is definitely in the running. Texas woman Maurissa Starks was in for a fantastic surprise when her husband took her to Sephora as a part of their sixth anniversary celebration. When they got into the store, he told his wife that she was about to go on a shopping spree. That’s right. He didn’t give her a price limit or tell her that she was only allowed to shop in one part of the luxury cosmetics store. She was free to buy as much as she wanted — the only rule was she had six minutes.
She shared the experience on social media.
Starks shared a video of her shopping trip on her TikTok, where it’s gotten millions of likes and views. “Excuse me, ladies and gentlemen,” her husband, Sir J. Starks announces to the store. “Me and this beautiful woman are celebrating six years of marriage today. She has six minutes starting now to get whatever she wants from the store.”
Maurissa immediately runs off, and a Sephora sales associate comes through, helping her with a basket and asking what they can help her get.

She was definitely in shock.
“When he said six minutes, I think my brain just glitched,” Maurissa Starks told People. “There’s no way I can do anything in Sephora in six minutes, but I’m just excited. This is super cool,” she added.
“When he started screaming, my heart just kind of started racing. I’m like, what the heck is he doing?” she said. Maurissa also said that in the past, her husband had “done stuff to surprise me before, but I’m always surprised because it’s something different.”
Starks had nothing but love for the Sephora employees.
As the woman quickly shopped, sales associates all over the store began helping her fill her basket. They were asking her questions, making suggestions, and pulling as much product as they could to make sure she got a good haul.
“I’ve never experienced just women coming together to help another woman out in this kind of way,” she shared. “It was just so sweet to see and just experience. I just wish that all women experienced more of that.” Sparks explained that she went through the store and hugged the women who helped her after she was done. She even posted a follow-up video to give them a special shout out.
Her husband just wanted to show his wife how much he loves her.
“I want to make sure that for our anniversary, she knows whatever we’re doing was thought through, it was intentional,” Sir J. Starks told People. “Because that’s her love language — quality time.”
For him, there was nothing better than watching his wife enjoy herself while she went through the challenge. “It was equally cool to enjoy the moment for our anniversary just as much as it was fun to watch everybody else respond to her.”
And as for the price tag? Maurissa kept it modest for a Sephora shopping spree — she only spent $425. “I’ll just say the amount of money I was prepared to spend was way more than what she actually spent,” her husband said. But his wife wasn’t trying to spend a lot. “I think naturally, I was just being considerate anyway,” she said.
People absolutely loved this.
There were all kinds of comments, with many praising the Sephora employees for their customer service skills. At the same time, many people admonished Maurissa for not acting like there was a time limit.
“The Sephora associates came thru like the Avengers,” one person wrote.
“Man’s figured out how to get in and out of Sephora in under 6 mins 😭 What a guy,” another quipped.
“She care about that man’s wallet,” someone else chimed in.
“She’s definitely a good woman … she focused on only the stuff she needs … but I on the other hand …💀!!!” someone joked.
Even the official Sephora TikTok commented, praising Sir J. for his “Hero behavior.”
