Pink was already bold haircut goals, but the pop music vet just found another way to capture our hearts with a story about what inspires her short, blonde style.
In her speech at the 2017 VMAs, Pink revealed that she refused to grow her hair out to avoid conforming to sexist beauty standards. The singer shared the story with her daughter, 6-year-old Willow, after she talked with her mom about her own hair insecurities.
Willow described herself to her mom as "the ugliest girl I know."
Little Willow also told her mom, "I look like a boy with long hair."
Mama Pink responded by giving Willow a PowerPoint presentation about iconic celebrities who broke gender rules.
“Do you see me growing my hair? Do you see me changing my body? Do you see me changing the way I present myself to the world?" she asked Willow.
Nope.
"Do you see me selling out arenas worldwide?" she continued. "We don't change. We take the gravel and the shell and we make a pearl."
"We help other people to change so that they can see more kinds of beauty," she said.
Pink's lesson to her daughter is a lesson she's taught us all time and time again throughout her career.
She burst onto the scene in 2000 (!) with a strong, sultry voice and a hot pink pixie cut that made it impossible to look away from her. Since then, she's blessed fans with an incredible catalog of empowering music about self-love and individuality.
And when it comes to her look — whether blonde, pink, straight, or spiked hair— Pink has always done things her way, which is exactly how it should be.
