Gather around, children, because some of the biggest 2017 beauty drama is back — kind of. Tati Westbrook publicly banned Too Faced products from her YouTube channel last November. Her reason was that she had a not-so-pleasant run-in with the brand's founder, Jerrod Blandino, which rubbed her the wrong way.
After a full calendar year without speaking on the topic or so much as mentioning the brand, Westbrook has decided to clear the air.
Like all beauty influencer drama, this all (sort of) began with none other than Jeffree Star.
Last summer, Star called out Too Faced after founder Jerrod Blandino implied he'd invented the unicorn makeup trend — it ignited one of the biggest feuds the industry has ever seen.
During his rant, he let slip that Too Faced had allegedly underpaid NikkieTutorials for her collaborative Power Of Makeup palette — and potentially fudged the palette's production quality.
Shortly thereafter, Westbrook declared on her YouTube channel that she would no longer support the brand or review its products.
"I don't think the company has great ethics. I don't really care for the vibe and what they stand for, and I think their company actually IS very too faced," she said back then.
"There have just been too many things that have happened, and too many experiences that I have had personally, to feel like I want to support them anymore. So me and Too Faced, we're broken up," she said.
Given her timing, many thought those "experiences" were linked to the shoddy Power Of Makeup palette she reviewed back in 2016.
A few months after her declaration, however, she followed up by revealing her real reason for banning the brand: A negative face-to-face with Blandino.
"When I went to the Peach party launch — this was about a year ago — I had a really poor experience one-on-one with Jerrod Blandino. It was very embarrassing and very humiliating. He just treated me with disrespect," she said in an anti-haul video.
So much disrespect, in fact, that Westbrook says she cried during her car ride home. Harsh.
That video from November 2017 was the last time we thought she'd ever talk about the brand — but we were wrong. Westbrook's Too Faced beef has come back up one more time.
In her most recent video, the YouTuber brought up Too Faced one more time to... bury the hatchet?
When asked about brands she no longer supports, Westbrook said she thinks she's "maybe held too much of a grudge" against the brand.
"I do wish in hindsight that I had never mentioned [my experience with Blandino] on my channel," she said. "I definitely did cause some upset, and I wish I could undo that."
"Jerrod, if you're watching this, I'm so sorry that I said what I said. I really wish I knew what the hell happened or why the exchange that we had happened that way."
She went on to credit the whole debacle a learning experience — one she probably should have just brushed off and moved on from initially.
Wow, did a YouTuber just have... a mature and healthy response to drama? OK.
That being said, we'll be shocked if we see any Too Faced products popping up in Westbrook's upcoming videos.
