Get your lightsabers ready because a Star Wars collection has just been announced by Japanese streetwear experts at Uniqlo. And it's just in time for the highly anticipated final installment of the saga.Ā
Now you can rock the streets (or the office) in the iconic movie-themed attire. While Star Wars gear isn't exactly a new phenomenon, this line is exceptionally casual and cool. Uniqlo is known for its comfortable "lifewear."Ā It's not quite activewear, but it does use moisture-wicking, breathable fabrics that can keep you warm in the winter or cool in the summer.Ā
The graphic tees in this collection are super affordable (less than $15), relatively size inclusive (XSā3X), and gender neutral. The line launches on April 29.
Uniqlo announced the collaboration with theĀ Star Wars franchise through cool promo videos such as this one.
In the video for one of the designers, streetwear mastermind Nigo sits in front of a movie screen wearing his "Do or do not. There is no try" T-shirt. The best part of the whole thing is the back of the shirt, which features a graphic of Yoda in a backpack.
All of the promo videos featured Nigo and the cool, sci-fi Star Wars-esque music.
Nigo is a Japanese designer who has celebrity fans like Pharrell, Kanye, Ariana Grande, A$AP Rocky, Post Malone, and more. His linesĀ Human MadeĀ and AĀ Bathing ApeĀ are icons in the Japanese streetwear scenes. He is also the creative director of Uniqlo's graphic T-shirt collections alongside fellow designer of the line Tetsu Nishiyama.
The three designers behind the line grew up watching the Star Wars movies.
Nigo, Nishiyama, and Jun Takahashi ā founder of Undercover, another Japanese high fashion streetwear label ā wrote in a press release about how much the iconic saga influenced them. Each of the three designers worked on five different shirts, and their varying but still cohesive styles are apparent in the line.
The collection features fan-favorite characters like C-3PO and R2-D2.
Takahashi designed this shirt depicting an illustration of the robot buddies. I can almost hear C-3PO's nervous high-pitched voice and R2-D2's musical beeping.
Nigo designed this shirt with a fun surprise on the back ā Yoda.
The T-shirt seen in the promo video has one of the most famous quotes from the movie, plus an adorable Yoda on the back.
The highlight of this shirt, again, lies on the back.
Sure, who wouldn't want a Boba Fett tee? But what really makes this shirt stand out is the quote on the back: "Jabbawa-neen-chichko-ka-soanoo-eeshah-neetrai-tran-a-ee-wan-warooska." Look like gibberish to you? Better brush up on your Star WarsĀ languages before Episode IX.
These Ewoks are equally creepy and adorable.
Takahashi crafted this design based on the adorbale Ewoks from the films, but gave them a creepy and colorful twist.
The line stayed true to the brand's Japanese roots with a Japanese-language version of the iconicĀ Star WarsĀ logo.
The impossible-to-miss Star Wars logo is bursting into lightspeed in this bold graphic tee designed by Nigo.
Uniqlo's site also has more nerdy-chic graphic tees on sale now, this time for Marvel fans with apparel based on the comics.
Pick up a T-shirt in time for your viewing of Avengers: Endgame. You'll look like a real fan in these shirts based on the original comics ā not the movies.
